mileage report albuquerque to denver to the Rockies
Went to the Rockies this past weekend.....from albuquerque to denver on one tank of gas. I couldn't believe it!!!
Filled up with Shell 86 octane gas. There's no 87 regular in Albquerque.
461.2 miles on 8.927 gallons of gas -> 51.54mpg?????? (I'm shocked)
Cruise control on 67-68ish 90% of the trip.
A/C was on maybe a total of 15 minutes at level 3. It was off the rest of the way because it was relatively cool that day. The fan was on though...
Road was approx. 70% flat....rest was a mix of big and small hills
There were a few times (maybe 5-6) that I forget to turn off the cruise on the hilly areas and my Fit dropped a gear or two and the revs shot up to around 4000rpms.
Once I got to Denver I filled up at Travel Center America and got the 8.927gallon number. I dont know if the pump I used is accurate. I thought 8.927 gallons is a little low because I usually fill around 9.2ish gallons when the light comes on. But I definitely did not imagine the 461.2 miles.......and I defintely did not fill up on my way to Denver.
Driving in the mountain roads in the Rockies, I got around 36ish mpg. Again, I dont know how this can be because my rpms were all over the place......2.5k going to 4k going back to 3k...it was doing this for all the 195 miles I was driving from Denver to Estes Park to the Rocky Mountain National Park and back to Denver................I dont think this was good for my transmission. (I only have 2100 miles on my Fit...)
Going back to Albuquerque, I got around 43ish mpg. And I had to actually fill up the gas tank in Santa Fe. This seems to be more reasonable.
A/C was on 100% of the time at level 3.
Cruise control was on 67-68ish 90% of the trip.
Again, there were a few times where I forgot to turn off the cruise and the rpms went to 4k.......
Anyways, its great to see such wonderful mpg numbers from my Fit but I'm a little worried about all the shifting back and forth and the "dropping down a gear or two" causing the rpms to shoot up to 4k - 4.5k. I hope my tranny doesn't die a premature death.....
