750 Kilometers to One 42litre tank of gas
Hi everyone,
I have just joined the fit freak forum. I have had my Jazz since November 2006. It has to be the best car I have ever had. The best fuel consumption I have had so far, I drove 748 Kilometers on one tank of gas, (42 litres) This is the same as 42 miles to the US Gallon.
I achieved this not by driving like a snail but by using something I saw on Top Gear ( UK Car TV Show) When coming to a round about or junction, instead of keeping the clutch engaged or putting the car into nuetral, i take my foot off the accelorater and let the car cruise upto the roundabout/junction, in gear. This apparently uses hardly any fuel, compared to the car idling in nuetral.
If any one can get better fuel consumption, Please let me know how.
Hope this helps you all

I agree with MacJazz on this one..
When coasting (transmission in neutral), your engine is idling and will use fuel, not be in fuel cutoff mode.
After installing a ScanGauge II in my Fit, I was very suprised to see that any time the car is under any sort of engine breaking, the L/Hkm (liters per 100km) drops to 0 and the ECM changes to open loop operation. By engine breaking I am referring to the car being in gear (MT), taking your foot off of the gas enough so that the speed of the car is being slowed by the engine or the engine being under 0 load.
As soon as you apply any power, just enough to put a load on the motor, the ECM changes to closed loop mode and starts using fuel again.
This may relate to the coasting thread...
