City driving the AT defintely kills the MPG. I was seeing 33mpg routinely when I was on the interstate doing 75mph. Last week I was doing mostly stop and go involving short trips and my MPG were in the 27mpg range.
This car behaves exactly the opposite of a hybrid and it is advantageous to use it alot on the interstate...thankfully, that is what I do 90% of the time!

I guess the lower cam profile gets worse mpg? I read on one of these mpg threads that you get better gas mileage if you shift above the 3k, because the VTEC helps out (which is why its so low - i'll try and find it for you guys). I shift at 3500 - 4000 usually, and my gas mileage has never gone below 31 even in a city with crappy stoplights like Columbia. I'm sure NYC is much worse, but still a lot of stop and go here.

3rd tank of gas was all highway and only got 35 mpg this time. Speed kills your mpg as my previous tank was 42 mpg but any highway driving I kept at 60mph. Anything above 65mph and the fuel efficiency goes south.

not necessarily true.. i typically go 80 on the interstate, and my fuel efficiency is fine. there have been reports of people going 90 consistently and getting high 30's still.

is it true that the ecu in the fit "learns" how the driver drives and changes settings ?

Sounds like everyone is trying to hard ... trying to keep RPM's low ... think it's a bad idea also... just drive the car and your milage will probably improve ... don't know what my milage will be yet since I'm on my first tank of gas ... but at a half a tank I was up to 280 miles so looks like I'm in track to get 40mph ... 60% city driving %40 freeway ... MT

I'm in Los Angeles and am on the freeway less than 50% of the time. When I am on the freeway, I do a lot of sitting. I have a Sport AT and I don't hot rod around. I get 22 - 23 mpg. Not thrilled.

Last week I did a road trip of 137 miles from LA to Bakersfield. I filled up right before we left and my mpg was 35 even with going through the Grapevine and up and down all those dang hills. Why was it so high, you ask? We had a police escort and didn't have to stop. No, I'm not kidding. I was in a funeral procession for a Marine who was killed in Vietnam and finally identified. We spent a lot of it on the freeway where we went between 50 to 75 mph.

On the return trip with no escort? 23 mpg.

So, the answer is we need a police escort and no stopping.

Talking

ive got about 1000 miles on my fit, just did my mpg watch, 284 miles and gas light just came on, filled only 9.1 gallons = 31.2 mpg. last time i hit the gas light and went another 24 miles. so it could have been better (less fuel = less weight.) drove the car pretty steady, some romps here/ there and alot of interstate driving 75mph +... cant complain my type r ek got like 27 if you baby it

My first fillup averaged about 26MPG but I was reving it up and down constantly for engine breakin during the first tank after that ive started to drive it to what I pretty much am comfortable with but still follow my personal guidelines for engine breakin and the second tank yielded 37MPG about 50/50 city hwy driving. I am now in my first couple miles of my third tank, I am very positive that my mileage will still be between 30 to 38 MPG given my commutes and driving style. Hard core city driving will kill fuel economy because when youre stopped and ideling youre getting 0MPG and often enough people dont think about that.

I am teaching my friend to drive with my Fit a/t, and her mileage is way worse (25 vs my 32+) than when I drive the vehicle. I'm pretty sure it's all in the foot now. Smooth acceleration, cruise control at extended constant speeds, look ahead, don't jack-rabbit start. She's like, gas! brake! gas! brake!
