auto or manuel

I would rather prefer an automatic transmission than a guy named Manuel. Just playing.
To each his own. I have driven manual for many years. An automatic for a change.
Happy deciding!

HAHA. it depends on what u like and where u live and stuff. I got auto cuz i know im not gonna keep the car forever (eventually i'll give it 2 my sister) and if i wanted 2 drive stick i'll hop in my mom's v6 camry. =] Also, i live in southern california where traffic is a NIGHTMARE (my route is real bad) so i enjoy just leaving it in D and stepping on the gas. Other then that, i use the paddles all the time.

I like the AT because first of all I like to cruise and have a smooth ride. Second I have been driving MT all years until now, and my work car is a MT, so I needed a change.
Actually, here in Norway where I live most cars have MT.
I you want to go racing and have some fun with the car I think MT is the best choice.
But then again I have a CVT version transmission that is a automatic transmission but without the steps. And I like it because it even smoother than a normal AT. It feels like driving in first gear all time because you dont hear or feel any jolts between gears like you do in most AT. And I think it is real fun to drive. I also have a 7-speed mode that I can use in AT mode or use the paddles to change it to a 7-speed manual transmission.
Economical I dont think there is much diffrence, and it is depending how you drive and where you drive. If you drive a lot of highway and dont have a "heavy foot" then AT is probably a better fuelsaver. A CVT is better as far as I know in this matter.
I do not know the price on the car in your region but over here in Europe the MT is cheaper than AT/CVT. And the resell prise is also higher on a AT/CVT than a MT since there is so few of them. You loose less money when selling a AT/CVT car. But we don't have those crazy prices here where you can sell the car to HIGER price than you bought it for. But still the Jazz does not loose value as fast as other cars in the Eropean marked.

This is wayy subjective. Both transmissions are very are good, but are obviously different. It's really a matter of personal preference. Here's my take - answer these questions.
If you answered yes to more in the first list, get the MT, more in the second, get the AT. If you choose the AT but want to do the paddle thing, make sure you get the Sport - no paddles on the AT Base.
I want an MT because:
I want every ounce of zip the car has to offer.
Driving is Fun, and I like being involved of the process.
I don't mind shifting a lot when I'm stuck in traffic (or I'm never in traffic)
Everybody who will drive the car knows/likes to drive a stick.
I want the best gas milage possible.
Man, I love shifting!
I want an AT because:
I'm willing to give up some zip for extra convenience.
Driving is fun, but I'm ok letting the car make some decisions for me.
Shifting really sucks when I'm stuck in traffic, and I'm stuck a lot.
There will be other drivers who don't know/don't want to drive a stick.
I'm not hyper sensitive about the gas milage.
Shifting's fun sometimes but I don't want to have to do it.

Ive driven a manual for many years, and its fun at times...but rush hour traffic on certian roads can be very annoying. Especially if it involves a very steep bridge and bumper to bumper traffic, like in jax FL. lol
I guess it depends on what sort of driving you tend to do and what roads you normally take. Manuals can be very fun in medium to light traffic where you can actually shift through the gears and have some fun with it. However if you are in bumper to bumper traffic and are going light to light, and never really get out of first or 2nd gear than its almost like having an automatic anyways. Except for the added hassle of having to creep around with a clutch.
When i first looked into the Fit i only wanted a Manual trans, i wouldnt even consider the automatic and i actually refused to test drive an auto. But after a few weeks of thinking about it, and relizing what kind of driving i mostly do and what the cars purpose will be, i decided i should try out the sport auto.
Needless to say i have a $500 deposite on a red Fit Sport auto at the moment. I really love the paddle shifters, the ability to be lazy and put the car in "D" mode or get an extra kick out of the small 1.5 in "sport" mode is brilliant. The Fit is the first car i have driven with paddle shifters, and i think its awesome. In sport mode the car wont shift itself unless you tell it to. So you can actually take the car to red line if needed, or even bounce it a few times off the rev limiter. (Im sure a few autox'ers know what im talking about LOL) So really the only difference to me in the automatic is you dont have a hard launch option like you do with a clutch in a manual. But then again why would you need to rev a fit up and drop the clutch? Its not a drag car...so i really dont see the need for this in a Fit.
Also here in Las Vegas it gets super hot, and A/C is almost a MUST. I really like the fact that i wont have to rev the car up to get it to move when i have my A/C on. The Auto tranny takes care of it and makes the ride alot more smooth.
Anyways the Fit will be the daily driver and leave me money to spend on a new project car. (which will be a manual )

I really like my AT Sport, but the US AT model seem to get much lower mpg in city driving than the MT. The CVT models in the rest of the world don't seem to have as much of a city mileage issue.
So my advice would be: if you expect to drive in mostly city (stop and go) conditions, you should get the MT or consider one of many other small cars available today that will deliver better AT mpg under those conditions. (and no, you don't have to buy a hybrid to get decent city mileage, but a hybrid civic will almost double the city mpg of an A/T Fit Sport.)

Unless you hate shifting, because you'll be doing a lot of it. In stop and go traffic an AT is more convenient than an MT but milage suffers. Pick your poisen I guess.... I really don't why we didn't get the CVT, seems to be the best of both worlds to me.

I test drove both the auto & Manual trans Fit Sports and felt that the 5M had more power than the auto. When you add in the $800 premium for the auto and lower mileage plus (I think) slower acceleration, then the 5M is/was the only way to go.
