well my hybrids motor shuts down completely but the power needed to get up the mountains still kill the total mpg by a good 5-6 less than on a flat road. 39 instead of 44-45

The hybrid can keep the rpms low due to more power than the FIT and the CVT tyranny. I have taken my fit though the mountains here in Cali and went from 33 to only 29 given I'm on a new motor but the fit has to down shift to climb. Good luck staying below 3400 meaning you are in vtec and wasting gas.

When I say mountains I am taking about 0-3000 ft climb not the 0-6,000 climbs well I guess we are about a 150 and not a 0 in this part.

So I am still calling BS on this still.

My last tank: 296 miles......9.5 gallons = 31 mpg

To get 48 mpg @9.5 gallons = 456 miles on a tank.

That's just too much of a discrepancy.........

I want to know what kind of gas you're pumping.......I'm using Shell 87 octane.

I am getting about 33mpg but that mostly freeway with light traffic. With LA traffic I am sure I would get less

On a new motor though just 2,700

First off, MT or AT, then how do you drive, like a grandma or real man then are you sure is US mile or maybe British mile
W/out such details nobody will fully understand your great performance
Chris

EDIT: I forgot to wish you a very welcome aboard, didn't pay attention enough, apologize for that!
Drive safely!

My very recent long trip, Ottawa back to Toronto, about 300 miles, cc on 75 mph, no traffic at all (late evening to midnight), exactly 33-34 mpg (about 7L/100km)... that's why I now realize how people with incredibly high mpg really drive their cars, maybe when I'll be 60+ yo or in real need of Viagra then I'll get some 40+ mpg, but until then, as long as I'm still young I try to enjoy life (and driving) as much as I can

None at all, if you're engine braking, i.e. in gear and not pressing the accelerator.

If you're in neutral or have the clutch in to pick up some free momentum for the next climb, you're idling, which burns around 0.3 US gallons per hour. At 60mph, that's 200mpg.

When I take 401 to the airport and back, I get around 6.4L to 6.7L/100km (35 - 37mpUSg) at 120km/h (75mph). Interesting that the AT seems to be worse even with lockup and despite higher gearing. But you were heading west, so maybe you had headwinds.

Since you live in the Center Of The Universe, most of your driving is stop-and-go urban or divided highways. Most of mine is light urban/suburban and secondary highways. And I hate to break it to you, but the only reason I need the Viagra is that you're really just not my type.

48 mpg tale

I am sorry to hear that people are sceptic... Oh well. there is a good side to that.
I like to mention that in the past as you may already know I posted a 46.4 mile per gallon personel record. It was a MT Base Fit.
Of particular intrist on this is that not all the driving was on the hwy. I filled up and drove around town first. The drive I had don is one I recorded doing about four times. the best I had gotten on that same drive in the past was 38 mpg. It was frustrating because I did nothing different each time. the only difference was wind humidity and traffic. Another thing is that on the 46.4 mile per gallon drive in seattle there was traffic slow down on I-5. I really beleive I could have gotten 47 miles per gallon. Hear this also. I now drive a Auto sport fit which gets 7 -12 miles per gallon less then my previous MT Fit.
My boss owns an auto Fit he says he is getting the high thirties to 40 driving on I-5 these people are not full of it.
I have a felling alot of people aout there are going to be in for suprises regarding gas milage

mph what mesurment is that? I imagine you measure gas by the litter. people in my area use U.S. gallons. It would be nice to have a convertion handy to see what things really are.

Sport body heavier than the Base body, on top of that AT always burns more gas than an MT, all together the Base MT Fit will always do better mpg than a Sport AT, so, you want the best mpg and no more AT comfort go for the Base model, but if you don't like to drive MT, plus wanna enjoy the unique thrill of using the paddle shifters, AT Sport is your only Fit choice regardless of the mpg... personally, I don't freaking care about mpg, cargo, easy to maneuver and park, stylish and aggressive body, cruise control and, of course, the thrill of the paddle shifters, and that's why I drive the AT Sport Fit and not the MT or AT Base model...

If mpg was really my main concern I would have never bought the AT Sport model, but as mpg is not a priority when buying a vehicle (in my very previous message I clearly explained my priorities in buying a car) i know drive the AT Sport model and love every moment of it

How to convert MPG miles per gallon to liter per 100 km

i believe you, but i still hate you (lol j/k)...no matter what i do i cant break 33 mpg...driving like a granny i got like 32 or 33 mpg...driving spirited i get 31-33 mpg...an all highway excursion on predominantly flat highways but into the mountains got me 28 mpg...is your fit sport or base? i'm starting to think the aerodynamic kit on the sport isnt so aerodynamic after all.

Very much possible, you're not the only one with that particular mpg...
But before this Fit I had a Civic h/back, AT as well, I had even worse mpg driving the very same style as I drive this one as well, so I think that is not much I (or you) can do to improve the current mpg... the best for high mpg is either a hybrid (but it costs an ocean of $$$, way more expensive than a similar model in its class) or an MT Base model... and you know, all that body kit, of course it looks very cool and makes the car pretty aggressive BUT it makes it heavier as well so worse on mpg compared with the Base models... then comes the AT, another drop in mpg, these things you cannot change, next time do not get a heavy and/or AT vehicle if you want very high mpg numbers... for me, I'm damn happy with my Fit, not one complain so far
Enjoy the Beautiful and Warm Sunday
Chris

How about you read my entire post. I also compared my 2006 civic hybrid with currently has 35k on the motor. I have gotten 46 with it but we are taking about a 1.3l compared to our 1.6 plus like I said the new hybrid motor makes the fits motor look like it came from the stone ages.

I completely see a mt base FIT getting 40 and even 42 ... but this 48 is very hard to believe. I am curious what was the mpg on the tank before and after this 48 mpg tank. My guess is the gas pump over or under filled the tank making you think that you got 48. I assume you keep track of that data. I mean you keep track of every fill up every time in a note book of some sort.

If you read the whole article, it does talk about him driving the "plain Accord." He supposedly gets 95MPG with the Insight. Not defending the whole thing, but read the whole article to understand why Accord is in the title.

Do I have to unless I'm forced to... because... anytime I hear about hybrids and environment, nobody tells you how much these hybrids really cost... yesterday I went to the dealer for an oil change and picked-up a very large brochure of the Ontario Honda Dealers with all 2007 Honda models and prices, so just few examples, prices are in Canadian $ and you have to add 14% on top of the price:

Accord Sedan DX-G, 5AT: $26,000 +14% tax
Accord Sedan SE, 5AT: $27,700 + 14% tax
Accord Sedan Hybrid, 5AT: $38,090 + 14% tax
Civic Sedan DX, 5AT: $18,180 + 14% tax
Civic Sedan Hybrid, 5AT: $26,250 + 14% tax

So, how much do I have to keep this car (and same for all other hybrids on the market) in order to realize that I've really saved some hard-working $$$!!!
And Insight is not listed in the brochure, not even seen it in any Honda showrooms, no wonder why

I have nothing against hybrids, but please talk to me about this subject when they will cost exactly like the regular models...
I work too hard for my money in order to spent it on such freaking things!

The use of the accord in the title is because the guy used in the article owns and drives an accord as a DD. His wife drives an MDX (which he states he rarely gets below 30mpg with him behind the wheel). The article followed him using an Insight at a hyper-mile driving competition (which was borrowed from a friend). I linked the article because the driver was able to double what many people get with the fit in a higher hp, heavier car with albeit drastic measures.

What you take away from the article or gas saving styles driving is to your own, but fast (relative for our cars I know!) acceleration, excessive braking, and speeding all cost extra gas. It's a matter of what you value.

For a little test driving I have driven my Fit hard for fun and then at moderate freeway driving with little use of the brakes and lots of cruise control resulting in my worst tank at 28 mpg and best tank 46 mpg so far. I hope for around 32-35mpg driving without worry for gas. I could probably push the mpg higher but its not worth not using all of my 90'ish whp of fury. Sorry for the long post.
