Vtec sound

Vtec sound
Has anyone heard the vtec engage? ( You would have to have an intake to hear it probably)
I've been in cars with D seriers motors, B series and K's and you can most definately hear Vtec engage. I just installed a CAI and I swear I cannot hear the lobe difference or change. Doesn't Vtec in the L15 kick in below 3K rpm when above 50% throttle position? Either which way I cannot hear it. Maybe it's so mild of a difference that it's inaudible?

There is no lobe changeover on the L15... I honestly dont know why they called it VTEC, because everybody assumes is the traditional VTEC like in the D/B/K series... if Im not mistaken, all that happens is the engine switches 4 valves on @2800rpm. So you have 12 valves until 2800rpm and then it switches to 16 valves, basically for the sake of gas mileage.
That being said, you arent going to hear the infamous "VTEC cam lobe switchover", everyone is trying to refer to in this and other threads, when the car hits 2800. JEEZ!!

hey you dont get the sound but you do get the kick when you set it lower and get more than 500rpms of "vtec"

As per my first post I just put an intake on and I can't hear it change at all. When it is it must be very minimal.

Fit L15A1 engine does use two different cam lobes see this system description from the HONDA MANUAL. the sound is there just remove your air filter for a quick ride and you will hear it.
VTEC System L15A1 engine
VTEC System L15A1 engine
- The VTEC system changes the cam profile to correspond to the engine speed by the VTEC solenoid valve. It maximizes torque at low engine speeds and output at high engine speed.
- The low lift cam is used at low engine speeds, and the high lift cam is used at high engine speeds.

don't expect an SOHC VTEC motor to give you the feel and sound that DOHC VTEC motors give you... There's a huge difference between the D and B series, just as with the L. I only hear and feel it because I'm familiar with what it does... so I know what to listen for.

I have SRI,Header,test-pipe, and cat-back and I have yet to hear the VTEC crossover you are referring to. I think you guys are all making this sh1t up in your mind just so you feel a little better about not getting an SI...haha

why does it really matter if you can hear the vtec sound or not? does the sound make the car go faster or something? anyways, dont you guys know that if you cannot here the vtec cross over that means that the engine is tuned better and makes more power than one with loud vtec?

This is more of a question of the mechanics of the L15A and these mechanics or moving parts do generate sounds. Now how do you figure it's better tuned if you don't hear it? I'm not thinking you are wrong I'm just wondering what your line of logic is that's all.

Not that Im totally in agreement with him, but maybe he meant its a lot smoother transition instead of a blunt switchover? Anyway, I would imagine that the crossover point is alot incrimentally smaller on the Fit, than on a regular VTEC equipted car. It doesnt really matter, the car makes 109hp. I dynoed the other day and made 103fwhp and that seems to be one of the highest n/a Fits Ive seen dynoed on here...
