On my Fit and how I drive. Steady 55mph cruse (psl 70) is 10mpg less than P&G with eng off glide from 55 to 45 and to 40 maybe 20% of the time. That's BIG.

That is big and understandable. I just haven't been able to keep a constant pace of things and as you know I don't have a SGII to definitely establish a difference on how the glide time effects FE. I think you should see if 10 -15mph glide time makes a big difference in FE.

between the mpg gauge and actual hand calculations at the pump I have seen and average of a 5.6 mpg (14.5%) optimism.
These tanks have a few common conditions:
- ~90% 55mph roads, 10% city
-tires: 33psi
-load: 300-400lb (passenger + gear)
-weekday trips of ~100mi+ round trips at 50-55 average mph
-no FAS (except for 3-4 times totaling 1-2mi on the 10/15 tank)
-very little P&G (none on most tanks)
-a few instances of "hard driving," especially in the 10/11 and 10/18 tanks, which included rushing to work (65mph+, fast starts, higher rpm shifts) and even some 5500 rpm shifts to see what the car can do
my top two 50mile drives resulted in 58.3 and 56.9 mpg gauge readings
so if i use the largest error of 18% to estimate those mpgs, I would have 47.8 and 46.7 mpg tanks

Make sure you are telling the scangauge how many gallons(liters?) you actually filled. It will do average over a lot of tanks. Starting with your 5th fillup or so it will be much more accurate.

that data was from the in-dash Honda mpg gauge. i just installed my sgII and will be posting that data in the near future. you cant adjust the Honda gauge.

Besides I'll likely get ran over around here going 60mph on the highway. I often get passed when going 75 mph.

Starting this tank from a 1st click fill and using a 55 to 40 P&G on I-95, I saw 115 mile till the F mark today. Looking at my log book, that's the best I have done.
SG is only saying mid 55 for FE but with a 12 correction in there's no telling.

49.5 on the Honda gauge
47.2 on the SGII (with a positive 1% speed adjustment)
44.2 calculated by hand
most of my technique was to just go easy on the throttle while cruising 40-60mph. slower up hills
i also: coasted in neutral, small amount of p&g, psi @ 44, 80% hilly roads @ 50mph average, 20% city with some heavy traffic
did 4 miles on washboard gravel roads too
400 lb load

you guys are insane doing PNG and shit on the hwy
i set the cruise at 75mph and get 35mpg. if i have a bunch of time on my hands i cruise at 70mph and get 38mpg. i'm still on the original oil, too at ~6300miles (just hit 20% remaining).
i can't wait to see what happens to mileage once i get all the break-in fluids out of the oil.
this is pretty crazy. i can't believe the OE gauge is that misleading. as long as it is consistent, then that is what really matters.

wow you sure you just hit 20%? That's insane. I'm at 4600mi and I hit 20% around 4500. I'm going to wait til 5000mi to get my first oil change. I'm thinking something 0W-20 or at the very least, full synthetic 5W-20

I was thinking today and doing some calculations and I believe I will stop trying to get more than 50mpg. If gas prices stay where they are that is; I will only be wasting about $300 a year vs $900 and of course time is the other issue that I will not be wasting.

ever let go of the gas in a manual while in gear?
in essence, you will be able to coast much longer, esp in a MT

agreed, but i guess it comes down to how and where you want to coast. If I have to coast down to almost no speed, like off a freeway onto a ramp and then a light, coasting in gear will probably work better because until a low enough rpm (which you can avoid by shifting down at appropriate times) you'd be using 0 fuel.
If you want to just coast for long distances, using the idle gph is an acceptable cost because of the longer distance you can coast in neutral.
I hope I'm making sense.
