Mileage reports: Manual transmission (5MT)

You use the octane recommended by the manufacturer. Fit uses 87 and that's all you need. You won't get any MPG benefit from higher octane. Higher octane in a car not requiring it can actually create higher crabon buidups in the engine over time.

With the manual sport I got 35 on our first tank (filled by dealership so I'm sure it wasn't really full) and on the second tank got 37. This was about 60% city driving, no cruise, and A/C on about 1/4 of the time.
Not too shabby!

Yeah the fun factor has been getting to me.. keep stepping on the gas.. *not good for the mileage factor but FUN* My mileage did go down a bit on the last tank just cause well I was doing the FUN thing laugh..
The county cop did have a good laugh when I pulled into one of the espresson / store places and left the window down, armed it came out and just did the pop the door lock, and then had to figure out what pocket my keys were in to shut it off.. He had seen me pull in knew I had turned it on.. plus been doing a lot of up hill stuff.. I haven't QUITE gotten up the nerve to see what it will do in snow yet but.. I know the mileage is going to be a lot less on this tank.

Now that she's broken in I have been having bunches of fun and just got 35.72 mpg. Gotta luv it. Seems I get better mileage having fun than babying the girl.
By the way what brand of gas are you using. My lowest MPG was 32.5 using Chevron, The last fill was Mobil.

In the worst case, there is about +/- 2.3 mpg variance possible, if you work the numbers.
So, your mileage may have been like 34.3 and 30.3 instead (first pump stopped early, second pump filled up the neck more.) With a tank this small and large mpg, only thing to do is keep a log and compute the average over 3-4 tanks.

I just returned from a 600 mile hwy trip. Mostly 80 - 90 mph, with several excursions to 110 mph. Results: Tank #1 27 mpg, #2 31 mpg average. Not bad for an MT. And no tickets. Rained the entire trip. This car really sticks in the wet!
I know, all you do-gooders will scold me but thats what happens when you take drivers ed in Germany Besides, it was very light traffic.

My second tank was 33 (1 less than my initial 34) but I drove WAY more aggressive. when i got my 34 i barely reached the 600 mile break in, and i drove like a grandma its first 1/2 tank. I have 900+ miles now.

First full tank rode out to about 300miles so roughly 30mpg. The next tank only got to about 265!! Mostly city driving in a base MT, but I still expected a little better. I'm not driving in rush hour traffic just random traffic and highway but still I expected better and am hoping it improves.

Maybe some areas haven't switched over to summer gas blends yet? It seems that the average is around 35 or 36mpg (US gal), which is right in line with Car and Driver's 1000-mile drive (they got 36 average with varied conditions).
