Smile Most recent MPG

Well, after getting used to the MT (I haven't driven one in a while), I was able to improve slightly on the 36 MPG I was getting on my daily drive (mostly highway and back country roads). My last few tanks have been around 37.5 MPG. I averaged it across the last 3 tanks to try to take care of any filling discrepancies among stations, although it was pretty consistent. I am one happy Honda Fit owner...

Hi all,
Last two tanks:
38.5
38.2
I've reduced my speed a bit and sometimes us the 1 sec draft off a big rig. I like the control a MT give you - coast when you want - engine break...

bad mileage :(

My wife and I are getting about 26 MPG consistently - regardless of who is driving.

The driving tips posted before all seem like they might make a few mpg difference, but a 30% difference?

Is it possible that 1 in a hundred fits, or maybe all from 1 plant, have a defect that causes this problem? Has anyone who had this problem found a way to fix it?

Thanks
Mat

MAt, Do you know in detail how she drives and is this a MT? I'd say it's more likley it's NOT the Fit. I have seen folks get 25 and some close to 50, depending on there route they take and how they drive.

My guess is if a Fit was so broken that the mpg data was 25 and it was the car it would be seting check eng codes.

Here's some quations:
Doe she drive like she has no brakes ie lift off the gas when a red light is seen far ahead?
Does she keep the speed under 65 on the freeway?
Does she short shift at no later than 3000rpms.
Does she accelerate like a raw egg is under her foot?

Without doing ANY extra activities to improve mileage, I'm getting about 29mpg on my short in-town commute. This is still driving in a somewhat sporting manner, but not like a drag race from every stop light.

On this tank, I'm driving exactly the same, but shutting off the engine at stop lights. It's going to take a while to go through a tank of gas with my short commute, but I'll report back what kind of difference it makes.

If your Eco driving, IMHO the shorter the commute the worse the Eco. Look at most that do well they have longer commutes.

Having a SG, I can say for sure it takes many miles to work up the mpg from the initial start..........

I'm at 260 or so with a quarter tank left. I don't know what it is, maybe the warmer spring air, but it's usually at 260 with an 1/8th left. I got 190 at half (approx. obviously) and I've never got that with mostly city driving.

Mind you I'm not complaining.

9.036 356.50 39.45330
9.708 392.80 40.46147
8.981 359.80 40.06235
That's two 40+ mpg tanks in a row now. My wife drove the Fit for the second half of the tank, so there was no hypermileage driving for that part.

Just adding up the total gallons and miles gives: 161.6830 gallons over 5957.8 equals 36.84864 miles per gallon.

Finding the mean mpg of the fillups listed above gives 36.84725 mpg with an error on the mean of 0.5853063.

Either way it looks like my average is 36.8+-0.6 mpg.

It's time for an oil change which I'll get this week. It'll be fun to see how that affects the mileage.

I'd say what my standard deviation is for each tank (avg = 32.6mpg now), but it's on an excel sheet on my display-lacking laptop. :-\ Darn you, HP.

That's three 40+ mpg tanks in a row now. Again my wife drove the car for about a quarter of a tank worth (so no hypermileage driving) and the oil was changed at the half tank mark.

Just adding up the total gallons and miles gives: 170.085 gallons over 6295.5 equals 37.01384 miles per gallon.

Finding the mean mpg of the fillups listed above gives 37.02333 mpg with an error on the mean of 0.5803821.

Either way it looks like the lifetime average for my Fit is 37.0+-0.6 mpg.

One thing I've experienced is that as the price of gasoline has gone up, the mileage of my Fit has gone up. So my miles per dollar has stayed about the same at about 11 miles per dollar. I doubt that trend will continue.

Things are lining up for a 500+ mile tank right now. I just averaged 65 MPG over 160 miles last weekend... That's less than 2 ounces of gas per mile!

10,000 mile report

I've had my 07 FIT manual sport for 22 months now and just turned 10,000 miles (Don't drive much). Love the car! I've kept meticulous records on the milage. The overall average has been 38.0 mpg. This is mostly "suburban" driving here in the Boulder/Longmont area. Worst tank was 34.0 mpg during the winter with lots of short city trips. Best tank was 46.8 mpg during an extended trip up in the mountains.

That's four 40+ mpg tanks in a row now (the last one just barely). This week I had to drive faster than usual one morning on my 35 mile highway commute to work.

Just adding up the total gallons and miles gives: 180.037 gallons over 6693.6 equals 37.17902 miles per gallon.

Finding the mean mpg of the fillups listed above gives 37.17227 mpg with an error on the mean of 0.5701573.

Either way it looks like the lifetime average for my Fit is 37.2+-0.6 mpg.

I hope to have a few more 40 mpg tanks before I have to turn on the A/C during the evening commute this summer.

Turns out that my last tank was 36.1mpg. I don't know what I did wrong, or rather right, and I drove my usual 90% city + 10% highway. It may be the weather, as I've noticed my mileage is slowly getting better as the highs get into the 70's and 80's.
