if this is true i would totally wanna trade in my fit for a manual fit i cant believe you guys are getting this kind of gas mileage out of a mt fit over an automatic

 

Dude, don't believe everything being posted about mileage. Plus, one would have to drive this car like an old lady to even come close to some of the claims being made. Who the Hell wants to do that?

 

Standard 30 mile one way commute on I-270, I-495 & I-95 (Washington Beltway). Travelling at anywhere from 5 mph to 75 mph. Traffic usually runs at around 65 mph, so you can't really say I'm driving like an old lady. Also it's hot, we like to stay cool, so the AC is pretty much constantly on.

I'm averaging a solid 37 mpg over 3800 miles. I fill it as full as I can get it every fillup (ie, I fill it to the rim of the fuel filler tube).

I looked at what I had spent for gas last year for the 2 month period that I have had the Fit and compared it to this year. Last year I went through $744 worth of gas. This year in the same time frame? $299!

If it keeps this up the car will pay for itself :-) in a few years just from fuel savings!

 

OK. Sounds reasonable. I got 34.5 mpg driving 85-90 on a 400 mile roundtrip to Trash, er Nashville. I also fill it to the rim and have the A/C on since it's REALLY HOT here. However, the best I ever got in town was 29.5. I have 1600 miles on the car.

 

Remember, if the weather is warmer and not hilly where you are, you should be getting generally better mileage.

It sucks that normal cars will give the MT one or two more extra gears, both AT and MT have 5spd. That's where the car is hurting, one more 6th gear to drop the RPM's on the freeway.

 

Just my guess here, but I don't think the Manual Fit (which I have and love) would have enough power in 6th gear to be at all practical.

With under 2000 miles on I have had milage of 19-24-28-30 mpg around town with no use of 5th gear. One road trip carring a small canoe, some rolling backups, and a long delay gave me 34mpg. This really suprised me. Will try a trip less my roof rack and with the Dumbo ear sized mirrors folded back.

 

I think the reason they left 5th gear pretty low was that it pretty much eliminates the need to downshift at speed unless you go up a pretty steep hill - with the gearing as it is, you can pretty much set cruise and go.
With a 6th gear that would be set, say, where the AT 5th gear is, you'd need to downshift more often, on slighter inclines.

Still, for steady cruising on near flat surfaces, I think a 6th gear would be quite practical. Of course, this is coming from a person living in the Midwest....

 

I've had my Fit (Milano Red Sport MT, named Archimedes) since June 30th, 2007. I figured I would want to keep track of my mileage, so I wrote an online app that would let me put in information each fillup (basically mileage, cost, gallons, etc).

My driving is about 60/40 between Highway and City (respectively) and in the city I tend to drive rather hard. Average highway speed is between 70 and 80 mph. Since it is summer, AC has been on quite a bit, but not all the time.

Woohoo! My last tank was 32.8mpg. Driving (MT) was a bit spirited and I usually shift between 2500 and 3000k, except for the 4th-5th shift, at which I shift at 40mph/2500rpm on the dot.

So over my first two tanks, my average is 31.1mpg. On the first tank there were 27 miles unaccounted for from the dealer and I got 29.5mpg that tank. I think the dealer ran the car hard (revved high) those 27 miles.

 

Through 4 tanks of gas thusfar, I'm averaging 33.40 MPG and that's for roughly 50/50 city vs highway driving. That's with occasional use of A/C, all sorts of diverse weather and "granny" and "spirited" driving.

Not scientific I know, but it's still pretty good mileage

 

Don't know if the claims are accurate, but I am wondering about the people who are saying "I'm averaging between x and y..." An average, by definition, is a precise number, not a range of numbers. If you're getting a range of numbers as your average, you are not calculating it correctly.

I'm averaging 30.7 after my first 3 tanks of gas, which to me is a little disappointing.

 

Well, for what it is worth, here is my average that is a very precise number: After 2286.8 miles (at my last fillup), My Fit has used 62.047 gallons for an average of 36.86 miles per gallon

 

And got 38.5 mpg with it. I did the calculations and I would have needed to average over 41 mpg to justify spending the extra money for premium (about 30 cents a gallon more).

I did fill it up again with premium just to verify the milage, but I think I'll just run regular in it from now on, save some $$$$

Overall Average is 37.1 with a little over 5K miles on it.

 

Mileage so far is: 29.5, 32.8, 29.7, 31.1. All city driving.

 

Best: 41 mpg (mixture of mountain and highway, 0 a/c use)
Worst: 33 mpg (all city, lots of a/c)

 

Best: 38 all highway
worst: probably about 23 city
average: (99% city) 27

I'm sure it would; however, my initial message was in reply to someone who inquired why the mileage estimates on this topic were not more precise. The gas credit card receipts registers gallons used, out to three decimal places, and my spreadsheet already rounds those figure down to two digits, when I log every tank. I just posted the calculations that had already been done.
