My most recent tank, mostly highway driving at or below 60 mph:

449.8 miles / 9.516 gallons = 47.27 mpg!

That's with right at 5000 miles on the odometer. I bumped the tire pressure up to 40 psi and performed the ILP around 3000 miles and saw my mpgs jump considerably (from 36 to 40+). Of course, I also started driving slower at the same time, so there are a number of variables.

Last four tanks - 40.5, 41.5, 39.9, 47.27 The 39.9mpg tank, I drove a lot more city miles, and had the wife and kids in the car with the A/C on.

^ That's super good! See, people just need to learn to drive slower. I achieved 46mpg by driving 58mph for 220 miles.

Congrats on ridiculous mileage.

I cant wait till I do my first oil change. What is an ILP?

Also, are on an Auto E= MC? Given your previous mileage, I would have guessed MT :P

30mpg last tank.

80% City, 20% Highway. Mixed driving, some times conservative, some times spirited, about 50-50. Highway speeds ranging from 70-75mph. Pretty happy with that number.

My latest tank, drove 425.8 miles and filled up with 8.68 gallons = 49.05 MPG! About 80% highway 20% city.

ILP stands for Idle Learn Procedure. Basically, you: disconnect the battery, wait five minutes, reconnect the battery, start the car with all accessories OFF, and wait for the engine fans to cycle at least twice. The ILP teaches the computer how your particular engine runs, basically. It is something the dealership is 'supposed to' do before they give you the car. I can't say that it did any good, but it obviously didn't hurt the mileage.

Unless I'm running around spouting old information, ILP should be performed EVERY time the battery is disconnected, BTW.

And yup, it is an AT. I wanted a MT, but there were all of four Fits within a 100 mile radius of the house. The only MT was a used '07 Sport with 38,000 miles that the dealer wanted more for than the new AT Base...

Looking at another 45+mpg tank if I can keep my foot our of it!

on thursday i'm driving from san diego to santa barbara for registration at UCSB. it's about 220 miles one-way. I'm going to try to make it there and back on a single tank. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Love the Fit Sport Auto

I picked up my Fit on Friday with 254 miles on it (they had to do a dealer trade to get it to NC from Georgia because I had to have Blue). The dealer tank got me 31.1 MPG all stop and go, what I call "weekend nothing" driving. Filled it up this morning on the way to work and then filled it up at the same station right before I got home (same pump too), and calculated 40.12MPG. I drive 78 miles one way to work, with 72 of them being interstate. I drove normal for the most part, with a Max speed of 70. Before, with my olde "beater" pontiac, It would cost me $22/day. Today, it cost me $13. I love it. I am going to try a few of the tips that others have given me to see if I can get over 45MPG.

Love it!!!!

Congrats, must be that 5th gear on the AT. I know what you mean about cutting the price of gas that it takes to get to work, I have to drive 58 miles one way. The Manual has treated me well, since I decided to treat it well.

i just had my first fill up after installing a fujita cold air intake (on a full tank of gas) and my avg. mpg has gone up about 3!

take into account that I was probably driving it harder at first to hear the nice sound of the intake, and I topped the gas tank off a little to round out the $$, so the mpg may have even been a bit higher.

I am excited to see what the mpg is for the next for tanks (was averaging 28-30 with almost all city driving, and regular driving habits)

i would definitely recommend an intake for you hypermilers, and will report back once I get a few more tanks under it (that could take months though )

As a general rule, cold air is BAD for fuel economy, many things could have caused a 3 MPG sway, especially with heavy city driving.
But keep us posted on your progress...

Best I've gotten so far was 42mpg of mixed driving. I love the fact that it cost me about 35 bucks to fill it up!!! What a great car!!! Oh yeah mine's an auto sport, for now at least! K20z3 coming soon!!! I bet that will get even better milage to if your not on it all of the time!! More power less weight. Espeacially up hills!!!

This morning was my first fill up on my AT Sport. I had 347.9 miles on the tank and put in 9.163 gallons. Thats 37.96 MPG. At this point I'm pretty happy... we'll see if I can do that again!

I recently put in AFE's new DryS drop in filter (replaces the stock paper filter) with an oil-free performance filter. This allows the car to take in more air. I immediately noticed a jump in MPG, from and average highway trip of 38 (with AC but not cruise) to avg. 41 (with AC and no cruise).

The only difference in the highway trip was the first trip was actually from NC to NH. The second trip was to the cape from NH and back. The second trip I was stuck in stop and creep traffic for 30 minutes each direction.

I know my driving habits have changed a bit over time, but I still think that is a huge increase just for a filter.

So if anyone is interested in replacing their stock air filter with one that is more performance oriented without the risk to your MAF sensor (some performance air filters' oils can ruin the sensor), I would give AFE's DryS filter a try.

Another point to make on this filter, at highway speed (no downshift) I noticed a quicker response in the throttle when passing cars. Could just be me, but it was fun.

How much particulate material does it pass (microns) v.s. a stock filter? I know of several studies (actual empirical data) that shows a major bump in particulate intake with K&N (on diesel truck filters). The oil bath AFE's were the lowest (best) with K&N the absolute worst! Beware. Easier breathing comes at a cost if you live in dusty areas.

41.2 Mpg

Well... On monday I got 40.1 MPG on my first trip to work and back (about 160 miles 99% interstate). On Tuesday I measured 41.2 with no AC in the morning and ac on and off in the evening. I also reduced my speed slightly. Today I measured 40.01, but this could be because I drove to lunch in quite a bit of stop and go, and was not easy on it when it came time to go.

So far it has been....
31
40.1
41.2
40.01

I love it.

BTW... I am measuring this at the pump... I do use the same pump everyday. I have yet to go till it needed fuel... I cant stand to wait. I am always curious what the MPG is everyday. I even have people at work asking me every day.

One of the guys at work noticed my blue fit for the first time today and asked me if Papa Smurf was still making babies.. lol. I told him to enjoy his 28 mile drive in his Tahoe.

Today I got slightly worse MPG... around 36.3 and I drove about the same number of miles with around the same type of roads.

I did make an extra trip to down with a load (5 of us in it with the AC) for maybe 25 miles... and I got into the throttle hard a couple of times passing folks.

This also made me see the gas light which I hadn't seen on the previous fillup.

Still no biggie... I mean thats great for someone who used to get 20mpg

i guess this shows how much the driver affects the mileage. two months ago, a achieved 46 mpg for the tank average. today, after driving 90 on the freeways and redlining it whenever possible, while the A/C was on, a observed just 21.61 mpg.

but i'm leaving for santa barbara in about an hour, and i'm cruising at 55 all the way there and back. i'm thinking i should get around 48 mpg, we'll see.

45.13... Im happy!

Well... Unless I am doing something wrong (meaning filling up everyday when I get within 4 miles of home), I experienced killer MPG today.

45.13 MPG

This is using some of the hyper miler tricks I have read on here and cleanmpg. I decided my speed was going to be 60 MPH today. I was lucky enough to draft a UPS freight truck pulling doubles for about 60 miles of my 80 mile drive to work. On the way home, I stayed with 60mph and cycled the ac on and off (prob. on about 10 minutes the entire way). Needles to say I am very happy. I am going back to my old driving style for tomorrow and over the weekend to see what it is that way, even though it is not apples to apples (weekend will just be normal running in town). Next week I am going to fill it up and see how many miles I can go and check it over the entire tank.

Im happy
