Mileage reports: Automatic transmission (5AT)

I just filled up my first tank.
Conditions:
- Fit Sport Auto.
- Break in period, so limited rpm to under 4,000, but reving and varying rpms all the time (i.e. usually very bad for fuel economy)
- speed was mostly under 100km/h (60 mph), but never at the same speed for more than 1 minute at a time.
- first tank filled by dealer so I don't know what type of gas they put in
- on stock rims and tires
- travelled 414 km / 257.25 miles
- drove until E light came on
- all "city" driving with half of that mileage single drive, the other half is 4 adults and/or fully loaded hatch (moving).
Calculated milage: 8.5 L/100km , 27.67 US mpg
I was expecting worst considering the way I was driving. From my experience, I should be able to easily hit the rated fuel economy.
Also, with all this talk about bad fuel gauges, mine seems to be perfect:
From the owners manual the capacity is 41L, and when the E light comes on there's 6L left. My fillup was 35.255L + the 6L spare = just over 41L.

Last night I brought home a new tafetta white sport fit. Yes I had a storm silver fit but it is wrecked.
I drove 183 miles the type of driving was in the wind and rain on hills from 35 mph to 50 mph at one time I was stopped with the car running while waiting for a Fairy to go to Port Townsend WA. So 183 miles and I acheived 33.8 in my new sport auto on the first 1/2 tank... What do you think about that? I sure hope that I can do as well as I did with the manual fit... worst 28mpg best 46.4 mpg. Mostly 33 to 38mpg.

Our Average
We are currently averaging about 33 MPG with a Sport AT. Mind you that that average is a bit skewed by some excellent numbers (in one case, almost 39 MPG) obtained in pure highway driving. We have noticed in our environment of city/suburban driving in a major metropolitan area that if the city/suburban ratio exceeds 50%, the gas mileage in our application drops below 30, albeit by not much. Our lowest mileage in about 1,500 miles of driving has been 29 MPG.
To be more precise, if the driving condition is such that 50% or more of the times our Sport AT Fit is driving in a pure city/suburban mode (see definitions below), coupled with highway driving that is not sustained (meaning that we may get on the freeway but stay on it, e.g., only 10 miles at a time), then our Fit has dropped to as low as 29 MPG with our driving.
When I say "pure city," I mean that it is a neighborhood/downtown traffic mode where your average speed never gets above 30 mph and your vehicle can never stay at a constant speed for more than a minute or so due to the lights, stop signs and other traffic. In this mode, it is impossible to reach a highway speed (unless you are trying to kill yourself and others). When I say "suburban," this is a mode where you can reach a highway speed at times, but you also occasionally hit a traffic light or stop sign, as well as tempting restaurants and stores that interrupt your driving.

After 3200 miles on our 5AT we're averaging 31 MPG in combined city/hwy driving. By comparison my S2000 (rated 20/26) averages 27 MPG on the same route driven the same way. By accelerating very slowly (SUVs 6 inches from the rear bumber at every stop light) MPG goes up to 33 or so, but it's no fun to drive that way. It's still a great car and both my wife and I love driving it, but the gas mileage is a little disappointing. Too bad Honda isn't offering any explanations.

Broke 40MPG in Sport AT!
Had my new VBP Fit Sport AT for a month now, after 1200 miles I've averaged 33.5 MPG with mostly highway driving. The other day, though I finally broke the 40 barrier. I got 40.5 MPG with 80% freeway, 15% highway and 5% city driving, probably averaging 60 MPH. I dove the car a little harder after that fill-up and got 30.1 MPG. Yikes!

We got our new Fit Sport Automatic in June and have nearly 2000 miles on it. We are only getting 18 to 21 mpg. Dealer checked it out twice, called Honda, ran tests, etc. Tells us to break engine in and wait and see how it does at 5000. Friend has the same model as us and he is getting 30 to 33 mpg and up to 42 mpg on trips. I think we have a lemon but don't know what to do next. Can anyone help us. Thanks P.S. My 2005 Acura TL 6-speed is getting 29 mpg so maybe I should just trade Fit for another TL?!

This tank I'm on now is doing pretty good so far. The gas gauge is at about 3/4 of a tank and I've got 80-something miles on the tripometer. Most of those miles are highway and keeping my foot out of it.

Wow, lot's of variety in reported fuel mileage from all you Fit owners. Quite a few reported ways of calculating that mileage, as well.
We have had our 2007 Sport AT Fit since early September and have about 3000-3500 miles on it. My wife drives it to and from work, to and from my daughter's school, etc all less than 6 miles one way. All city driving and she has been consistently getting 30-31 mpg. We haven't taken the car on any trips longer than 35 miles one way yet, so I don't know what mileage to expect on the highway.
It is a fun little car to drive

Have 3000-3500 miles on our Fit Sport AT and my wife drives 90% city driving (no more than 6 miles one way) and she gets 30-31 mpg consistently. Haven't had the chance to drive on any long highway runs yet...hope to get around 35-40 mpg there...we'll see.

Also, my owners manual says in Sequential shift mode that you can go from 4 -> 5 when going over 30 mph.
As far as mileage, I get between 31 and 33 mpg most of the time. I took a long road trip and got exactly 40 mpg.

bounty hunter is right! I had to re-learn because of the pedal and the electric throtle controler. I have over 8500 miles on mine: break in does not work. But to be fair my commute is up and down two interstates (I85 & I75) 23 miles one way just about. There is also some "around town" also...
The average mph on a regular driving around in gridlock on ALL roads: 28 to 39! And that makes a bit of difference on the mpg! I have gotten from 24 to 28.9 at times. On the road on a long trip: 38 to 42!

I've had my VBP AT Sport for six days now and filled up for the second time today. The first tank got me 28.5mpg and that was the free tank from the dealer, so I don't know if it was all the way full. Today I showed 32.4mpg, so I'm happy with my mileage and I'd say my driving is 50/50 city/hwy.
