We are supposed to now keep a record of the mileage for the next 4-5 tanks and then take it back in. Im hoping that we can get rid of this turkey under the lemon law......disgusting that this car gets lower mpg's that most V6's and some V8's. Honda sure dropped the ball with this car.
i am sure i will hear the same thing - i agree with you on that lemon thing. i really wish i bought this car closer to home.

well keep us posted please.

Just now filled up, got 21 MPG, mainly small city driving. Previous fill up with some highway driving, got 33 MPG. Mine is a Sport, automatic with 650 miles on it. Hopefully, it will improve with age.

HOT in TX...USE A/C

I've had my AT Sport since the night of April 19th. She's got almost 5k mile on her and I have been averaging 36mpg a tank w/ the A/C on @ all times. It's gone down a couple of miles or two, but I think it may be due to the "quality" of the gas I've gotten...i.e., self-serve (Pacific Pride) vs. mainstream Valero, etc. Until the first service reminder...vamanos!!!

jrlnc, thanks for the reply, my milage really sucks, not getting over 28mpg and the last tank was 26. I keep the air most of the time (hot here in Sacramento). I did the re-learn procedure this weekend and I'll see what that does but looking for all the help i can get!

Just wanted to reply to a comment from the warranty repairs thread that should have been on this thread. Someone commented that they wanted to drive their little Fit hard and fast and I agree wholeheartedly. I have driven as fast as 110 MPH and it takes turns better than anycar I have ever owned, I guess I'm just older now and more conservative so I don't drive like that very often. I just feel sorry for the lady in NYC that is getting 19 and 20 MPG in her Fit since she bought it for fuel consumption in the first place.

Of course it doesn't hurt that where I live in Northern Texas is pretty flat and my commute to work is about 3 miles (yeah!). I also spend more time on the highway because living in a rural area necessitates driving to the Dallas/Fort Worth area to do anything like shopping or seeing a movie.

lol that would be me (nyc lady) and i am no kid. but i do love to drive. and i love a car that handles well. i think i am too old to learn how to drive all over again. you know all that talk about tourque and rpms. it all just makes my head hurt. i push the peddle and the car goes. or not so easy? how i wish i bought the stick shift but by the time my son learned how to drive stick i would need a new clutch.

after all i learned how to drive on a stick shift VW and then i learned how to drive automatic. perhaps i have been driving too long?

car is going to dealer on wednesday. i hope i dont get a song and a dance.

hey for this kind of MPG i could have bought a Honda Civic (2005).

let us know what the dealer say...I'm interested to find out what kind of potential hidden problem there might be with certain Fits on these low MPG, the lowest I've got was 23 MPG... , I've been thinking about the dealer route, but doubt they would do anything now since the car is still so new...maybe Honda need to hear this too...I feel your pain!!

If I've been reading here, all of the people reporting really poor fuel economy have the AT, right?

I'd say the problem is the transmission, not the car or engine.

nope, i remember reading some AT with mid 30s MPG...plus, the downside of AT should never be different by 10 MPG, that would cause a lot of trouble...no matter how AT ppl drives, it should be above 30 MPG instead of 19 or 20...

They didn't tell me anything other than my driving was causing the bad MPG..

On a side note, I've gotten the BEST gas mileage out of my fit on the CHEAPEST brand fuel you can get...
Some no named gas station in Laguna Beach (on PCH... accross from the Chevron - can't remember the cross street on the non-ocean side of PCH) gave me my first tank over 30 mpg.

My last 5 fill ups have been interesting... and I can't remember where they call came from...

Miles Gallons MPG

276.6 - 9.436 - 29.697 - CLOSE!!! SO CLOSE!!! (It gave me hope... I filled up at Shell and got...)
230.5 - 9.615 - 23.972 WTF!?! I dunno what happened... then I got that gas from that non-branded place...
278.3 - 9.253 - 30.076 There we go... getting better...
300.4 - 9.783 - 30.706 (All freeway - though I sat on I-5 for about 15 minutes... and rte 14 for about 45 min...) And yeah - I drove with the gas light on till I hit 300 miles... I was so close I had to push it :-X
316.4 - 9.815 - 32.236 This gas was from Arco...

Filled up again - and I was at 167 miles at the half tank mark. It's improving (for some reason...)

What am I doing differently?
I'm not babying the car any more.

I drive it MUCH harder than I used to (when I was getting on average around 25mpg) Accelerate harder, climb hills faster, drive faster on average...

It doesn't make any sense to me (unless speeding up is sucking WAY more gas than driving at cruise speed... which is true and makes sense - but sucking a little more and accelerating to cruise FASTER is actually more efficeient than accelerating slowly to the same speed? Just a thought here...)

Apparently it's more sporty of a car than I was led to believe...
It likes to go...
And goes more when you let it go...

The only other thing I've been doing is keeping it in S and manually shifting it when I'm on the freeway.

I'm sure that's what's really been helping, but I still don't understand why it's doing so much better all of a sudden (and why that one tank SUCKED (my 3rd worst tank so far)).

The other thing - I've been driving off road a bit... Climbing up mountains, driving down dirt paths...
I think the Fit is an outdoors type of car... it just doesn't like the city. Apparently it needs a little filth and fresh air...

Hmm.... it won't let me put more spaces between those numbers...
Sorry it's so hard to read :-/

And another side note - that 23 mpg tank? That was the first time I'd actually pumped up the tires - to 36 psi... before that tank...

I hate to think what it woulda been if I'd have left them around the 28-32 range they were at...

There are a few other Fits in these now, hopefully more to come.

That site only has 3 people with sport AT's...
I'm the only one in CA - my average (I put in everything I've got...) is 27.7

I'm in Cali and I've been getting low mpgs(30mpg) since I've had my AT sport.
I just did a Vegas trip doing 75mph most of the way and I got 37mpg for the first time. So it looks like it's possible to get 37 in Cali if you are doing long trips without stopping. I'm sure my next tank will be back to 30mpg.

i would be dancing in the streets if i were getting 30 mpg. why would you think that was bad mpg?

you live in cali and do stop n go. that needs to be taken in to account. last road trip i did i got 30 mpg. wow!!! now thats bad. ok. i dont know whats up with my car but i hope they dont tell me i am crazy.

right now i am closer to a 1/2 tank then a 1/4 and i am at 71 miles.

and this is without a/c. cant wait to see the mps on it when i take it in on wednesday. will probably be best yet.

1/2 tank and only 71 miles? Its almost as if you have a hole in your gas tank! You drive this in manhatten or what?

no i drive in Staten island, its like the suburbs. just lights and light stop and go traffic. well not light traffic in a Nebraska way but in a NYC way. in fact this is the best gas millage i have gotten, just came back from the store, a 1 mile trip, and i am still not at half a tank and am at 75, no a/c this week.

at this rate i might get 22 mpg!

i feel a slight hesitation when i take off. is this normal? my kid says yes. i say no. its like i hit the gas and the car takes a bit of time to follow. could be my imagination but that might be my problem. he says its just the way the new transmissions work.

I have an automatic, and its like i press the peddle and it just seems like the car takes a second or more to jump into first gear. i am not explaining this well. it always seems as though i am hitting the gas more then i need to in order to accelerate.

is there anyone out there who knows what the heck i am talking about. at first i thought it was because of the A/C - my older cars did that. but that was just an excuse. HELP - i go to dealer tomorrow!!
