I was cruisin along on the highway today and a big white truck (F-350 or similar, with dualies) changed lanes and picked up a rock and fired it at me
I would estimate the rock to be about the size of a small moon.

here is a detailed closeup of the crater.

and here is it's location (RIGHT IN MY FACE)

I payed a visit to my local window repair shop and they said they could fade it a bit for about $50, or replace the window for about $390!!![Frown](https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I guess I could look on the bright (non smashed) side of things and be glad it didnt hit the hood or something..

oo, reminds me of the time i got hit by a tiny pebble which shattered the windshield on the corolla. It was in winter and being the lazy arse that i am i didnt scrape the ice off the window and just blasted the defroster to clear it. after driving about a km the tiniest of pebbles about 1mm across struck my windshield and the entire thing just disintergrated ... it held together but the windshield itself was in atleast 10,000 or more pieces
i guess in retrospect it wasnt such a great idea to blast the defroster to melt the ice .. the stress caused by the rapid heating and cooling of difference sides of hte windshield must have been too much ...
390 is a pretty good deal id say considering mine was replaced at 300 and that being a 6 year old car. such a huge crack would be hard to repair and definetly would not have the same strength as a new window

What the heck?? Is this the week of Fit's getting messed up? I think I'll leave mine home and take transit for a bit while this "mess up Fits" thing passes. :/
Sorry to hear it... I'd probably cry if that was me.

Lol I didnt cry, but I'm suprised you all didnt hear me cursing from out here in Calgary. I think I might need it replaced because it probably compromises the integrity of the window. I can also feel all of the seperate cracks and I think if I pushed on it, it could break right through =(
I'm just glad the windshield was there, or I would probably be dead.

Yeah, but high clearance on pickups and SUVs looks cool, and mudflaps shielding those huge exposed wheels don't look cool. Don't you understand that replacing your windshield is a small price to pay so that toy-truck drivers can look cool?

driving in the asteroid belt
Sorry to hear about your windshield. What a spectacular shatter--but expensive to fix. Cheaper than the medical bills you would have had if the rock had come through the glass though, so be grateful that it is only the windshield.
I have to drive through areas with much hwy construction--gravel haulers everywhere and of course here in TX EVERYBODY drives a big rig and they handle them aggressively and spit rocks at us little car folks.
My windshield got only slightly nicked when a truck lobbed an asteroid my way--made a very loud sound that scared the cr@p out of me. Later I discovered a lovely big dent and scratch on the hood--the initial impact, before it bounced onto the windshield-- that would probably take $700+ to fix (I'm guessing the entire hood would need to be done).
I think I'll keep my $700+ scratch and dent, thank you. Cars can't be new and perfect forever, there will be some battle scars.
More important that a dentless car is escaping without bodily injury, and for that I am very grateful.

Ouch, that's nasty. My car got hit with a stone earlier this year. It broke through the paintwork and hit so hard that it actually dented the top of the bonnet (hood) beyond the edges of the scar. I think it dropped the metal by two millimetres.
