Fit insurance high?
A LONG time ago, someone posted how high insurance was for this car, but I gnored that thread. But my parents (who pay my insurance) told me of all our cars, the Fit was most expensive. We have a 2000 S2000, 97 civic hatch, some old mazda MPV, a new acura RDX with tech package, and the Fit. The fit's insurance costs more than that new RDX. If you think the logic is because Fit is a small car and passengers get hurt, also remember that the civic hatch's insurance is low.
Anyone know why the Fit's insurance is so expensive?

Insurance does not work that way. Each car gets a rating, and each driver gets a rating. Then cars are matched with drivers (not necessarily the driver of the car). Everyone in the house is rated as is every car. Some agencies will do there best to lower costs by mixing the youngest driver with the oldest car however some companies require the youngest driver to be rated on either the newest or most expensive car.
There is a lot more than goes into the monthly cost and the cars rating is only a small portion of it.

It's not too hard to figure out. California classes drivers based on the # of yrs they've been licensed. People with more experience simply get better rates, and people with particularly low experience get much higher rates. If you've got the least experience of anyone in your house, and your driving the Fit, that's influencing the premium for it. Also, California offers a Good Drivers discount to driver's who meet certain criteria, and if you're not meeting it, then that's gonna raise your premium as well from lack of the discount. California also rates vehicles using annual mileage, so cars driven less miles per year get lower rates than ones driven more. They also allow for "extra vehicles" -- i.e. if there's only 3 drivers in the house and you have 4 vehicles, that one "extra vehicle" can be rated at a very low premium due to lack of use. Don't for get any violations, accidents, etc. being surcharged. W/o looking at your family's insurance directly, it's hard to say, but these are some things that are going to have an effect on it.

There's another piece that is missing here. When the Fit came out, it wasn't "rated" yet, so it got a default rating, which was very high.
When you renew your policy, it should drop since it probably has a better rating on it now.
You may want to contact your agent to ensure that this adjustment gets taken care of.

I just got insurance for my Fit Yesterday.
In Mass 2007 AT Sport Fit was $100 more than my 1996 AT Civic DX Hatchback.
Both were the exact same policy and in my name.
I'd say that is pretty good insurance rate for a new car. Even the insurance rep on the phone commented on how cheap it was.

when I got a quote in may of 06, we gave the insurance co like 4 different vins that matched the color and specs of the car I ordered. None of the vins worked in their system, but they gave me a quote. It ended up being $600 a year more than my 94 civic, both full coverage obviously. I wonder now, they probably didnt have all the information they needed then to give a proper quote, so the rate will probably be different now.

My Fit's coverage is pretty low, based on what I'm seeing here, only about $620 every 6 months (I've been driving a very long time and insured two other cars with Allstate). My daughter's insurance for her leased Yaris is virtually identical. We also get discounts for safe driver, good student and for having homeowners' insurance with the same company.

I own a 2002 Subaru WRX, so I know what the insurance really is on my car. I went to my insurance company's web site, and got a quote online for insurance and it was nearly accurate to the dollar. Then, I got a quote from the same web site for a new Fit MT Sport. The quotes were both $83 per month, only the Fit was several cents less to insure. On the other hand, a Scion xB was much less to insure, over $100 less per year to insure.
Yes, insurance on the Fit is insane. It should be several hundred dollars less per year to insure the Fit than my current ride, especially considering the Fit costs less to repair overall (heck it's only 60% the price of my current vehicle!) and it has curtain side airbags, which is an additional safety feature, and it has less than 1/2 the horsepower. Utterly ridiculous...

Paying aprox. $525 per 6 months; this just recently went up from aprox. $462. Using Nationwide with the house/car discount. I am 39 years old and live in PA.
Yesterday was my "6 month anniversary" with my BASE SSM MT!!!

Yea im not sure about my company and the Fit insurance. Im on AAA midatlantic with my mother as the primary and myself (19yr old male no accidents) and my brother on the policy. With minimum coverage on my civic ex 1999 i paid about 1,200 a year or so. And when qouted for the Fit they told me about $4,000 a year. That just seems rediculous being that i qouted a Geico qoute saying 800 and something for 6 months. I know companies vary and that my age and other reasons are a factor. But $3,000 more a year? Thats not right
