honda liability rating increase?

Hey guys,

I just got my insurance bill for the next 6 months and noticed it increased by about $20/month since the first 5 months I had my Fit. a quick call to the insurance company and they told me the only change on my policy was that the 07 Fit Sport's liability rating had changed thus warranting the increase in the monthly premium.

Any of you guys experienced this lately? seems like a large increase, and I wonder if Geico is screwing me around. I haven't had any luck finding the auto liability rating for the Honda Fit online either. Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Maybe the insurance industry's recent safety tests have had an impact? I don't know by how much mine has increased for the next quarter, but my agent mentioned that there was a minor increase in my liability/comprehensive. I have State Farm, so maybe they're making up for what they lost in New Orleans?

Last I checked at work last week, ISO Rating Symbol for the Fit hasn't changed since last year when it came out, so a symbol 11. Most companies use the ISO ratings for rating purposes, but some larger companies like State Farm use their own ratings. Not sure if Geico uses ISO, or not, but if not then yeah, it's possible they may have rated it higher. BTW, you won't find those ratings on the net -- ISO charges companies for the use of the ratings, so they don't post them anywhere you can get to, and companies that use their own ratings definitely won't post them as it's proprietary info they don't want other companies to see.

My policy did the exact same thing over at Nationwide! They told me that it was because the company itself had changed how they classified the Fit and the coverage I received for it. Some sort of internal re-evaluation for the new year. Maybe something similar happened with Geico? I doubt the overall liability rating for the car's changed - it might go on a company by company basis.

It sure was annoying, though. My insurance is already expensive enough. :-\

Mine went down

That is so strange. I got a $20 refund on my policy with Mercury because they said they updated the ratings. I'll see what happens in April. Hopefully it wont go back up.

Heh heh. I'm sorry, your car is too much fun for you to get away with paying so little insurance on. We're going to have to bump your rates up a bit.

Don't feel bad I got the same shock two weeks ago when I got my 6 month premium for my Base Fit! I have an aprox. increase of $50(for 6 months). This is through Nationwide and all they could tell me was it was "the car". I've got good coverage so for the time being I am sticking with Nationwide, but I may have to start shopping. I researched insurance when I had my car on order, so this was quite a shock from my original rate when I got the car back in August.

I just dumped Progressive last month because they bumped me up by about $30 a month. I switched to Peerless (a subsidiary of Liberty Mutual). I now have two cars (great coverage) and home owner's all for $110/month. Not sure what everyone else is paying, but I guess it depends on the company up vs down. BTW, Allstate wanted twice the premium for the Fit. I would shop around and remember you dont have to wait for the policy to expire to cancel and start a different one.
