Platinum Theft Protection

Hello to all Fitfreak Members:

I am thankful for having found this Fit Forum Group as it is certainly full of great information.

Hopefully with the vast knowledge in here I can possibly look forward to some answers.

So here it goes:

I have put a $500 deposit towards a manual Nighthawk Black Fit to be delivered, from what I have been told, within a couple of months to a dealer located in Vancouver, BC. Some friends of mine (immigrants from Russia) were also interested in the Fit so I sent them to do business with this particular dealer in-trust. They are looking to lease the vehicle over 48 months with a $5000 deposit and I consider that the dealer-customer process must not be going all that well. They said that the dealer is forcing them to purchase a PLATINUM THEFT PROTECTION and that Honda requires that this be sold with the vehicle.

What I would like to know is whether this is true or not. When I placed my $500 deposit I was never told of this package. Apparently this adds another $500 to the final purchase price of the vehicle. They were told that due to the severity of vehicle theft in BC this is a requirement from Honda and that the vehicle cannot be purchased without this. I have been trying to explain to them (friends) that theft is in effect already covered under the provisions of their future ICBC insurance policy which also includes replacement cost. They are very frustrated with this hence this new thread. Their english speaking ability is also not the best which I contend is adding fuel to the fire, so to speak, in reference to the Dealer network and its dealings.

Has any of you been through this? If so could you please take some time to clarify whether this is a requirement from Honda or not?

Additionally, the brochure for the "added theft protection" is put out by First Canadian Protection Products. Ironically when I googled this particular Company I was not able to find iota. Fishy-Fishy....

Thank you in advance for the light you may shed on this situation.

i'm in the U.S. but unless they have paperwork from the government showing this which i doubt, then it's a lie. This has to be a ploy since you didn't get the same thing. Law is the law.

I remember when i was young, a honda dealer said i needed an extended warranty.

I can't speak for Canada, but in the US there is no such requirement whatsoever and I've never heard of there ever being one. I smell a scam from the dealer, probably because your friends' English is not so good and the dealer thinks he can get away with the lie. I'd tell them to look elsewhere for a Fit, but you might want to wait for the opinion of a Canadian member first just to be sure.

It's a scam!

A dealer in Toronto tried to sell me the same crap and I walked out as a result. I went to another dealer and they didn't even mention a word about this theft protection. It's useless. Definitely a scam.

i leased my fit at middlegate Honda, Burnaby. I was never told i need to get any add security package in order to get the vehicle lease. I smell a scam here.

If you need any other dealer, go to middlegate honda. The salesman i had is a really nice guy and he got me the fit within 3 days in June. He even threw in the cargo cover for free. BTW, his name is Paul.
