This news is old though. The biggest drops will be hybrids, whose epa testing is least realistic.

I also dont' know why they don't mention automatics. Auto always get lower mileages (and horsepower). To me, EPA is kinda dumb. Even their "emissions" rating needs revamping. when a car says ULEV u think it pollutes less than a car that says LEV, but it's not truel. All the emissions rating rates is how much gasoline evaporates instead of getting burned. In the end, mileage is most important for emissions. Evaporated gasoline is not anywhere a scary global warming molecule as much as CO2.

So a ford fusion or a VW rabbit, w/ a PZEV score makes you think theyre as clean as a hybrid. But in reality, b/c of their low rating, they pollute more than the fit, which has an LEV rating. The LEV Fit emits the same as a ULEV scion xA. The emission score is never useful.

so as you can see, I don't really take this news seriously. Also, for some reason, every vehicle gets a different epa test. That's why the fit getes 38/33 and the larger civic gets 40/30, and the smart4-2 gets 50/50. In reality, their mielages are around 35, 32, and 60. Larger cars get over-estimated EPA scores, where lower cars get underestimated EPA scores.

I don't quite understand the point of putting the "actual mileage" on a vehicle's window sticker. If I wanted to check my "actual mileage", I'd do the math myself. I'd rather know what's *possible* for me to achieve when making my car buying decision. That number is almost always going to look better, except in the case of the Prius. Actual vs. possible mileage would be about the same I expect.

I do, however, think they should tighten up on their emissions stuff though.

yeah they mentioned this last year or around then. Their testing proccess to get their mpg is just sad. They had to give the manufacturers enough time to get a few cars in their lineup with higher ratings to offset their other cars losing milage. I forgot what the limit is but the EPA has a set limit that a manufacturers lineup's average fuel economy should be. (follow that? )
