Trunk Bike Rack

I searched on google and here a lot and kept hearing that it shouldn’t/couldn’t be done. Or we must keep the spoiler off, or it’ll dent the trunk.

I figured the straps could be under the spoiler and wanted to give it a shot. Not too worried about denting as the car isn’t in the best shape anyway; but thought that locating the supports on the license plate may help distribute the force.

Two weeks in with the bikes on there the whole time, highway driving and all, and we’ve had no issues.

I went with the $40 Walmart Allen sports deluxe two bike rack.

Looks good! Do you plan to keep it mounted year-round?

And, two Fits!

I’m not sure if we’d keep it on there year round but probably not. I’m scared that we’d get a ticket for covering the license plate. And we can’t open the truck with all the weight on there.

Can you post some close up photos of the straps?

Ahh. Thank you!

Did you have to remove the spoiler to get the top strap hooks under it or was there enough space to squeeze them through?

I've been wondering about this as well. The GK spoiler is a little harder to get under. I don't have a hitch, nor do i plan on getting one. If no one else has some good shots of how this works without smashing the spoiler on the 3rd gen, i think it may be time to save for the roof rack, and mounting hardware.

Took the spoiler off. It’s very easy. Take off the two caps with a flathead to get the the bolts underneath each cap. 10mm socket.

Then just pull the spoiler off. There’s like 4-6 pins that keep it on there, just pull away from the car, normal to the surface and it pops right off.

Took me longer to find my 10mm socket than getting the spoiler off.

My big concern with racks like these, that are designed for trunks, not hatches... is that pressure they put on the rear window... last thing you want is a big bump to break your window

Box specifically says they’re designed for both hatches and trunks.

I would not be worried about the rear window, there’s barely any force on it. The load of the bikes are primarily on the top hooks and the lower bar. The torque of the bikes pull the top bar on the glass away from the glass and barely touches it.

I AM worried about the lower bar denting the body work though, which is exactly why I had it on the license plate to maybe distribute the force.
