2nd key stolen

Over the weekend I had break-in at my apartment and among other things they took out 2nd car key
Has anyone had any experience of losing a 2nd key and what are best ways to deal with it (along with possible expenses/costs)?

We can live with one key for now, but my primary concern is if the burglars would come back and search the car in the apartment complex and drive off?
We will try to contact Honda also but would like to know the possible options to expect and to look outside (along with cost associated with it)

Thanks

There is a way to reprogram the key fobs yourself without going to a dealer. One such example:

https://www.hondapartsonline.net/blo...r-honda-remote

What you could do is purchase an additional fob (aftermarket is fine) and reprogram it as the secondary fob, using the one you still have as the primary fob. That way, the original stolen fob would be useless with your car.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. I suspect someone in the apartment complex has been casing you and waiting for the opportunity to steal the car unless you reprogram the key as advised.

Thanks, will look in to the self reprogramming option (seems too good to be easy and true - just hoping there it is not prone to failure/mistakes that completely lock me out!)

Had called a Honda dealership they said $150 for reprogramming OR $225 for reprogramming and a 2nd key.

Called an ALOA certified locksmith they said $68 for reprogramming and getting a simple key OR $129 for reprogramming and getting a key with the buttons on it.

Just sharing above for others. But if anyone has any other experience please do share!

I would just emphasize having the programming done asap. A car key only has value if ........ You get the picture.

If you need a stop gap immobilize the car. Not sure where you go to buy a "boot" but you easily can and nobody gonna be going anywhere when that's on.

This only reprograms the keyless entry. If they have the key, they can still use it to manually open the doors and drive the car away.

U sure? I thought it reprograms the code for ignition too. I'm not totally sure. If it doesn't what is OP supposed to do (except make sure his insurance is up to date ...)

That is just for door programming correct? OP still needs his ignition immobilzer programed which is seperate from that.

I think that just does the doors not the ingition and you can still use the key to unlock the door manually.
