I am sorry to hear about your headaches! At least you got your car back!

Lojack is good! As many anti theft devices you can put the better. Even stupid Club on the wheel. That will make them pick easier target.
I believe in self installed hidden measures. Everything commercially available thieves found a way to get around. It is much easier to figure how to disable something than to invent something.
Few years ago Audi was declared as one of the most secured cars. Guess what?! All of a sudden they started disappearing off European streets!
Thieves figured out to use Audi passenger security features against it's security system. Apparently cars had a fire sensor that would automatically unlock doors in case of fire! Bingo! A lighter, new instrument cluster(contained built in security system) and a matching ignition switch/lock w/a key! Cars were gone in seconds!
Do not do something to piss thieves off. They will just vandalize it. Insurance covers it, but the feel of being vandalized won't.

Do your research. There are devices available that allow parents to keep track of their kids while they drive. Some are hardwired into the car and some are as simple as cheap pre-paid phones with GPS that you just toss in the trunk or hidden compartments. usually device is not overly expensive. It is the monthly service that they make money on. Your insurance discount just might offset some of it! Ask them about it!
I prefer to provide them with a nice surprise like that. You know the one making it possible for me to follow my stolen car to a location of "disassembly" and call cops. I think that seeing their faces as they are being helped to the back of the police cruiser is priceless! Being busted for stealing one of the more affordable cars out there will make them a joke in jail! That might even qualify them to become somebody's bitch in there too!

its hard to keep your car safe these days, i would suggest invest in an Autolock or club merely as a deterrent but look at the tools that are availible to thieves today.

its just ridiculous

and it only cost $90 bucks

The best security today and will all ways be this...

Layers of security.
