DIY - 2 Point Grounding Kit

DIY 2 POINT GROUND KIT

I had this on my RSX and got pretty good results. After installing my stereo, I installed this to increase the efficiency of the grounding.

Tools Needed:
Wire Cutter
Wire Crimper
Dremel w/ Grinding or Sanding wheel
10mm socket with extension

Parts Needed:
1 - M6x1.0 bolt
7ft. 4AWG Wire (4awg is sufficient but you should use 0awg if your audio system uses a 0awg wire)
4 ring terminals 4awg (or 0awg if you're using it)

- Make sure the engine is cool enough to touch -

- Cut the 4awg wire with wire cutters, one end should be 3ft, the other 4.
- Strip the ends of the cable
- Crimp the terminals onto the stripped ends.
- Disconnect the negative of the battery and take the nut off the bolt
- Slide one end of the 4ft cable onto the bolt on the negative terminal and put the nut back on
- Route the cable behind the large resevoir to the passenger side

- Losen the bolt on the back of the head of the engine holding the spark plug rail
- Pull the bolt out
- Slide in the other end of the 4ft cable and one end of the 3ft cable through the bolt
- Tighten the bolt back onto the engine block

- On the passenger side in front of the strut tower, there is a raised plate with a threaded hole
- With the Dremel, grind some paint off around the bolt hole
- Put the M6x1.0 bolt through the terminal end and through the threaded hole
- Tighten the bolt with the socket and extension

- Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery and tighten it.

Results:
The idle felt smoother and the power delivery seemed a little better. Also when you raise the windows, the RPMs don't drop. Overall, I am happy with this $20 mod.

have you considered adding the ground to the dbw throttle body? im on another board and they seem to rave over it (better response apparently)...

but there are people that are pro and con. just wondering what you and some other members thought about it.

*edit*
they said it helped throttle response because of the buildup of static electricity on the TB

I felt improvement in throttle response with what I have. Since the TB is attached to the block I think it would be overkill to ground the TB itself.

The TB is insulated from the PLASTIC intake manifold (plastic is Not a ground) by gaskets therefore it has IT'S VERY OWN GROUND WIRE so no need at all for another one. Ground wires do nothing for throttle response it's the placebo effect raising it's head yet again.

sorry i was thinking of my RSX for some reason.

i dunno about the placebo effect tho; I installed this to improve the power distribution of the audio system and the throttle felt noticeably different. Could be wrong tho, i didn't install it for that purpose.

In case anyone was wondering, I grounded the throttle body after doing the inital 2-point ground mentioned in the first post. There was no noticeable difference after grounding the throttle body so I'd say the 2-point grounding upgrade is sufficient

I don't have a SG but I did notice there is a significant decrease in the amount of throttle lag when accelerating in both Drive and Sport mode. This is especially apparent driving uphill where the transmission had a tendency to shift between 4th and 5th gear (doesn't do it near as much now).

Definitely worth doing the mod, especially all of you ICE guys who happen to have extra power cable laying around after an amp upgrade.

i know this thread is pretty old, but i see you've got what looks like wire going from the positive of the battery to possibly the alternator? i'm trying to upgrade that for my honda jazz as the final part of the 'big 3' but can't seem to find where the bolt is on the alternator; if that's what it is do u think u could post a pic of it pls? would really appreciate it!!
