Snow tires- 175/65/14 vs 185/65/14
I just purchased a set of 14" rims and am now shopping for snow tires for my 2007 Fit. I've read that narrower tires perform better in the snow. What would be the difference in performance between 175/65/14 vs. 185/65/14 vs. 185/60/14? The reason I'm asking is that I've come across some lightly used tires in these sizes and am trying to decide which ones to purchase.
Any advice you have would be most helpful!!

The 175/65x14's should be your choice. Wider tires require more effort to 'cut' thru the snows but we don't have comparison numbers. Tires with slightly greater diameter, like the 185/65x14 are better overcoming snow ahead (the ramp effect) but need more effort to push thru the snow. The 185/60x14's are too little diameter and harder to push thru so both ways they are third choice. we have several winter ski addicts here and they've all settled on the 175/65x14 or 15 tires. Which brand tires? That they haven't settled - and not likely to - but the recent CR testing has opened a a new range of discussions. Personally, I like the CR testing results.
