Cool 215/50-15 Tires on Stock Rims

Has anyone installed, or considered, 215/50-15 tires on the stock Gen1 Fit Sport rims? If my spreadsheet skills are up to snuff the circumference of this size is only 0.08% greater than the stock 195 size. Compare that to the "standard" Plus-One size of 205/50-15 that has a circumference 1.60% less than stock.

Unfortunately ... in terms of lack of choice ... there's only one tire available in the 215 size: B.F. Goodrich g-Force Sport CC.

I'm obviously concerned about extra width fouling suspension/brake components on the inner surface and bodywork on the outer surface.

BTW ... the spreadsheet also calculates the stock tire size at its wear limit to be 2.13% less than when new!

I went through some calcs myself a while back, found this handy, although sounds like yours may be more precise if you have wear diameter haha.

Um... what's the spec's on the GD wheels?

is the width at least 6"? Cause 6" is the minimum manufacturer spec for the width that the tire will fit on. And even doing that isn't something that many people prefer (we like some leeway).

Had the previous model before the cc with no issues. Lowered on Skunk springs, then on Tein with no issues....

I was looking at a 205/55-15 tire for my stock rims. But I'm worried they might rub even though unlikely as I'm at stock height. Idk. I'll keep an eye on here.

215's are realistically too wide for the sport rims... you won't be able to use whatever slight bit of extra traction you're getting, the sidewall will be SUPER flexible, you'll have to run a lot of tire pressure to keep the tire wear even (and it still won't be), and you'll be adding weight unnecessarily...

The 215s will fit the wheel since it is in recommended wheel width range (though, it'll be kinda saggy) but the more important question is, 'Would the tire rub during turning?" The reason I mention this is because this tire will be 10mm closer to the center of the car, IE: towards the anti-sway bar, McPherson strut, etc. I would highly recommend doing some measuring of the inside your current tires with the steering wheels pointed straight and full lock in both directions as well as check the rear clearance.

That would depend on what generation/chassis Fit you have. In the case of the 1st Gen/GD3 then the rear wheels should be fine; but the front however, can possibly rub on the front fender liners during heavy cornering and bumps (you don't have to worry about hitting the fenders though). Now, if you have a 2nd Gen/GE8 then you may be able to run 205/55s since they have 15x5.5 or 15x6 steelies with a +45 offseft if I remember right.

Don't hold me to this though, every car's wheel/tire fitment can variety despite being the same model. Please wait for at least a 2nd opinion on this.

I personally am running 205/55R15s on my GD3 at stock height with 15x6.5 ET+40 wheels which push the inner wheel/tire clearance 9mm away from the car's center line and pushes the outer (curbside) clearance 21mm in comparison to stock Sports. My tire's rub all 4 corners during heavy bumps and cornering without fender modification but if I tuck the front fender liners I can clear the front tires.

205 Options

Good replies.

With 'standard' 2008 Fit Sport 15x6 +55mm rims I'm down to three non-standard choices, so I'd appreciate any additional comments from FFs who have actually tried tires in these sizes:

(1) 195/60-15, which I 've been using with no problems. There are many impressive tires in this size including the new Continental TrueContact and General ALTIMAX RT43. This size is 3.27% too large and has a -4mph speedo error.

(2) 205/50-15, which is 1.60% too small and likely a +2mph speedo error. There is some choice including the new Dunlop Direzza DZ102.

(3) 205/55-15, which is 1.85% too large and likely a -2 or 3mph speedo error. There is very little choice in this size but the Direzza DZ102 is included.

+0 is a great option putting you at 205/50R15. Slight rubbing depending on the drop. 215 is to big for the stock wheels.

Drop or no drop, is that the question?

Hi Rollerboots666,

I assume, by your comments, that you have dropped the suspension. Do you have any experience rubbing the 205/50-15 tires with stock suspension height?

Thanks.
