Trying to find right tire size

I got some rims for my car 16X7 +42 offset and I'm trying to find the right tires size for the rims. as of right now the ride height is stock but I hope to lower it on Progress springs I was looking at 205/40/16 do you think that would be a good size? Also would a 195 be stretching the tire?

I would run 195/50/16 or 205/45/16, the 40 profile makes the look of the wheel tiny. those two size will get you the same rolling diameter as the stock. 195 on a 7" i wouldnt say it stretches.

I have a set of 16x7 wheels with an offset of 40mm and plan on running 205/45/16. Will I have any rubbing running on the stock suspension?

No. I ran that exact setup for a while before dropping, and never once rubbed. Even on hard corners and such.

so you guys dont think I will be rubbing with a 45 series tire? Looking threw the Tire set up thread I thought I saw some one running a 16X7 with a 45 and said there was some rubbing. I dont remember if his car was lowered or not. Is there really that big of a difference between a 40 and 45, I wouldn't think there is.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm getting the wheels powder coated this week and wanted to know which tire size wouldn't rub.

205/40x16 will be about 1" smaller than 195/55x15 so the 'gap' will increase by half-inch. 205/45x16 will be better, about .2" smaller.
205/40x17's are close to stock diameter. And they will work on 17x7 wheels with 42 mm offset unless you have lowered.
