Typically, at 5,000 miles-- but check the owner's manual to be sure.

Do you know what type of rotation the stock tires do? Is it a | | change or an X change? Better yet, (from front to back): Left to Left, Right to Right. Or Left to Right, Right to Left?

Am I making sense? There's a term for this, but I don't have the manual in front of me.

Wow, 500 a week... what kind of gas mileage are you getting??

I would think every 5k would be about right, but if I were you, to maximize tire life, I'd purchase a cheap tire tread gauge that they sell at local auto parts stores. Keep track of your tread depth to know when to do a rotation and also to watch for over/under inflation and alignment issues.

As far as balancing, whenever you feel vibration that you feel might be due to the tires.

Good luck... seems you bought the right car with the amount of traveling you do.

I also drive about 500 mi/wk, but cut it down a bit by car pooling part of the way. Interesting that I took my Fit in for oil & filter change at the dealer where I bought it, and they didn't say a word about tire rotation! If 5 K is the right time to do it, it should have been done. Thanks for asking the question. I should have thought of it.

Just rechecked the owner's manual and they have nothing about interval on rotation. Good tire tech from Tire Rack...

The manual does state to use pattern A or D, depending on the type of tires (directional or non-directional) you have.

I do it every oil change tahts me tho.... but they usualyt tell u to do it every 7000 miles

The blow out could have been caused by the tire loosing air pressure over a period of time. As the pressure goes down the heat goes up and then the tire blows out. That is my guess as to what happened. It is not covered by a warranty for road hazzard.

Just call our customer service and they can help. The tire would be covered if you have the road hazzard.

On the front wheel drive car every other oil change for a rotation is good. You should not have to have the wheels rebalnced unless there is a problem.

I know Pittsburgh streets all too well -- more potholes and debris than pavement! No better here, though. Bless my little Fit -- a big pickup truck cut me off on I-4, then threw up a huge tire retread behind him that he hit. It was flying through the air, I swerved, and the Fit did a neat job of correcting itself, staying in the lane and still missing the road debris. I guess the guy realized he almost caused an accident; he moved into the right lane and slowed way down.

Thanks for everyone's input. I will rotate the tires when I have my first oil change at 5,000 miles and then every other oil change thereafter. As for mpg's, I've been averaging 35 to 37 mpg. However, with heavy AC use, it drops to about 32 mpg...still not bad.

Tire Pressure

I just bought a pressure gauge and will check my tires tonight.. is the wait 2 hrs after last drive for cold pressure? Should they be at 36psi?

I also have an 98 Dodge Caravan and a 2005 Civic, any idea what psi they should be at?

Also, i've heard that in the winter you are suppose to inflate them more and deflate during the summer?

Hope all of this will help increase my milage!

Usually on any vehicle, the recommended tire pressures are on the outside edge of the drivers door when opened.

i know.. but people have found that they get better milage if they pump a little more air in their tired..

32 is pretty standard for the Fit, but I have mine at 36. A bit more stiff, but it should help the mileage and handling.

Just follow the door jamb and only a couple pounds more. If you go to high the tires will wear out down the middle faster. I would not go up and down with the weather though. The best time to take the reading is fiorst thing in the A.M.

I would stay with 195/55R15, 205/55R15 or 205/50R15. What are you looking for out of the tires? Let me know and I can make a better recomendation.

The Kumho Ecsta MX in the 205/50R15 is 72.00 per tire and they are an excellent handling tire. Euro Tuner rated the MX number one on the dry skid pad. In the 205/45R16 take a look at the BF Goodrich G-Force Sport at 66.00 per tire.

but i went with falken azenis rt-615 as recommended by ben@a&j...
i'm loving those tires...awesome grip in the dry...haven't used them in the wet...
