Okay Fitfreaks, is it just me, or does anyone else have a problem of getting shocked almost every time you get out of the car? Almost every time I get out, I get zapped by a static discharge when I shut the door to close it, or to open up the back door. I've learned to touch the door as I get out now, but it's sure annoying! Today I actually saw a spark jump about 1/4 inch! I'm afraid I might zap my iPod, cell phone, laptop or even just the $150 key inadvertantly...... Any suggestions on how to avoid/lessen the shock?

Ive had that problem with everycar Ive ever owned. I just close the door with my armsleeve.

Try using a Bounce sheet from the dryer
I personally havent tried it yet but want to cause this happens to me allot!

 

I just close the door by pushing the window.

 

shoes with thick rubber soles work, I noticed I get shocked with my tennis shoes a lot more than my heavy work shoes.

 

My car's got about 3,500 miles on it. Recently it began to dispense HUGE electric shocks upon me exiting it. Only change is that I installed the floor mats, but they have been in there "loose" all the while without issue.

Anyone else experiencing shocks? I've never had a car do it this consistently or with such force.

 

its the weather. winter is very dry and causes a much easier possibility of getting shocked.

i'm gonna buy some of that static guard spray and see if it helps. drives me crazy. it's only this car since new.

 

Yes, weather makes a difference. but it explains not the fact that in EVERY other car I'm in currently it doesn't happen. It's a HUGE zap!

 

I think the nature of the cloth just causes it to be more of a problem than in some other cars at this point. I'm going to try fabric softener sheets and see what happens.

 

I use static guard on my seats and it definately works. After about 4,000-5,000 miles you have to reapply it though, but it's definately worth it and very easy to do.

 

ZZZZAAAAPP!! Ouch!!!! Son of A @!#$%^!!! I feel you pain....... Litterally!

 

Mazda 3's had a spot on the door panel that was about 1.5" by .5" and said "TOUCH" on it. When you pulled the door panel off, you saw that it was a ground wire that grounded on the body of the vehicle. When I asked about it, I was told that it was to prevent static shocks when exiting the vehicle.

I would imagine that touching a grounded point on the car would likely take care of the problem. The big silver reciever on the B pillar which the door latches to is grounded. Try touching it as you get out, or even having a hand on the metal door frame as you get out. Not the most convenient, but it might solve your problem.

 

electric shock/static from the car is due because.. air friction from driving from normal - high speed and its built up some electrostatic in ur carbody.. and you got no earthed Tyre (carbonbase tyre) (basicly is the electrostatic trap on your car and no way to go.. so when you exit your car.. ur body touch carbody and you feet touch ground.. and u get electricshock)

so the more you drive at high speed 60mph/100kmh--- the more electric static and more electric shock you experience when u exit you car..

the solution :
1. change your tyre to carbonbase tyre... <-- expensive way to do it
2. Buy a earthing strapping from ur local car store.. and install it on ur car underbody.. makesure the earth strapping hit the ground when you stop
