Bilstein B14 (PSS) on GD3, why not?

Why will the Bilstein B14 (PSS) PN:47-165854 not fit on a 2007 GD3 Fit? Why is this a bad idea, or is it? If GD3 Mugen parts will fit on a GE8 then why not the other way around?

Was it something I said? Around 70 view and no reply. Should I post this somewhere else?

I doubt many folks here can answer your question.

From all my suspension playing around on both cars, here is what I am confident in.

The rears will fit, should be bolt right in. You WILL have to fairly drastically cut or have very small bump stops as a GE shock will be longer, and will have less effective travel on the GD.

In the front.... these use a silly screw on zip tie to secure the senors for the brakes, so that should not be an issue. I can not confirm they will slip right onto the GD3 knuckle though. I know of at least one case where a GE based coil over required some work to fit the GD front as far as clearance for the mounting ears.

Also, this will be a fairly "soft" setup for a GD. The dampers will not be adjustable, and the valving in the dampers and spring rates were based on a heavier and stiffer chassis...

So, let me ask you, what are you trying to accomplish with this suspension? There are a lot of coil over/suspension combo setups for $1300 or so...

I am planning to replace the stock shocks and springs. I want just a little stiffer for my daily commute and I wouldn't complain if it were just 1" lower. I have spent several days looking at oem replacement shocks and stiffer springs (Swift or other), I also looked at the coil overs available.

I know the GD has higher spring rates (168F/314R) than the GE stock (129F/117R) because of the softer chassis but the Bilsteins should be a higher rate than the stock GD springs. I know the rear rate is a big differential but I thought the GE8 came with rear sway bar? Even if it didn't I have been running the Progressive Rear Sway bar for a few years now, which should help to stiffen up the rear.

I am mostly concerned with the shock lengths and front upper spring perches.

Upper spring perch is a non issue, you will have to re use your GD stuff and that is all good to go.

Shock length, as I said, will be longer at least. When it comes to the Koni's that are out there from Redshift, they extend a full inch further than a stock GD would, but compress to an identical length as stock. So, in the rear this is a non issue unless you regularly have the rear of the car suspended higher than a foot or so above the ground. In the fronts... I have no idea. And again, without actually having the units hands on to measure, there is no way to confirm.

Have you considered getting a set of the Tokico HTS adjustable struts and either Ground Control coil over sleeves or a used set of Swift lowering springs? Hootie JUST did it with the GC sleeves IIRC with very positive reviews, and I believe there were a set HTS/D Spec struts in the classifieds on here...

If I had to do it over, or was no longer so seriously racing my GD, I would do the Tokico/GC combo in heart beat. I had Tokico's and Swifts, and of the 7 or so suspension setups and combos I have run on my GD, it was by FAR my favorite. Simple to dial in, not too low, MUCH better handling. With a proper alignment and some good rubber, really made the Fit fun!!!

I appreciate your input, I had not considered the Tokicos. I quickly looked at the price and they are retailing for around $1000 and I will still need springs, $200-$300. I am tempted because I know this will be a more versatile setup but it would cost more than the Bilsteins.

I have seen you AutoXed your Fit with the Tokico and I assume the Swift springs? I AutoX a BMW e30 on Bilsteins and have enjoyed them. I guess that is the only reason I still feel a little draw to the bilsteins, I trust them.

Yes I believe the question here shold be "why" not "why not".

If I had a GD I would do HTS + Swifts and never look back if it was a DD.

I think you want the J's/Showa spring/shock package.

Perfect for a daily IMO.

I totally trust Bilstiens. Just installed a full set on my Mom's '68 Bentley

I had VERY good luck and development on the HTS/Swift combo for casual AutoX. Dial it stiff to compete, dial it soft for the ride home and to minimize complaints from the GF

There is a set of HTS rear shocks in the classified here for cheap:
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/sale...-shocks-2.html

Which would save you a few bucks over the full shock purchase!

True story... Wish in a way I had never traded mine away for my S2's

There is a Spoon sports fixed package too out there somewhere isn't there? All of those are excellent options... but probably even more than the $1200 or so the OP was looking at once shipped over aren't they?

Those look neato! Not a bad price... Hmm,

"Note:For North American models, JDM Honda stock stabilizer link ($33.00 x2) is required for the installment due to the geometry difference"

And looking at the pics, that is gonna be a must as that end link bracket is for sure different than the USDM ones:

Not sure how to easily get JDM OEM Honda bit's other than Rakuten or such, thinking with shipping... prbbly still $1200

Either way, those are COOL!!!

I am going with the HTS and Swift combo. After a lot of searching I will be able to get the HTS and Swift for just less than the Bilstein kit.

Showa makes J's setup?

What's the difference between the regular Showa setup and the J's?

Showa makes the shock/spring setup. Crux does the mega baller adjustable setup. It's the best thing ever.

Are the shock/spring setups marketed as "J's" and the one sold as "Showa" identical? There's a price break to be had possibly if so.

That J's Crux thingamabob looks awesome... even their shocks (only) are $3k

I can see why though, there's a lot of work that goes into them
