4 hours of work + 2 greasy hands = 1 lowered Fit

So I wanted to take the opportunity that today wasn't rainning and finally got the car lowered on Prokits. The install went well till I had to do the rear springs. They are a total pita to mount if you are doing it by yourself. Anyone doing this alone should either use a spring compressor or the help of another person to push the rear suspension down so the springs go in easier. Otherwise, you risk breaking the rubber seats. Here's some pikchors

you had trouble with the rear?? that's a first. The rear are super simple. jack up the car undo the strut and the springs practically fall out. Rinse lather and repeat the process in reverse.

Looks good and somewhat even not raked like most springs

i do the rears in about 5 mintues solo....sorry to hear you had issues. I jack up the rear, undo the shocks and the springs literally fall out. place the jack under the car after replacing springs, lower the car down. insert screws...done.

looks good though!!!

That's basically what I did..raise the rear, unbolt the shocks and the suspension falls. Taking it out the springs wasn't so bad, the hard part was mounting it. I don't think I did anything wrong, but maybe you guys had even shorter springs than Prokits. When I compared them to the stock rear springs, suprisingly they were about the same lenght..the thing is the rear suspension wouldn't go low enough to allow me to mount the springs, and whenever I'd push it down to get the spring in, it'd go back up not leaving much space. But it got done, so I'm happy. Thanks for the comments..

yah, that's because you didn't do both sides at the same time. remember, this is a torsion beam suspension...means you're working agains the swaybar torque.

if you forced it down real hard, chances are you bent the torsion and now your rear will not sit flat.

shoulda used jackstands in all 4 corners. That was my mistake when I did my coilovers. And I like your stance. Would like to see a lower-than-eye-level picture though. Wanna see the difference in wheelgap from front/rear

The front's got almost no wheel gap at all. The rear sits a bit higher, but then again they are Prokits, it won't be as low as Sportlines..my wife said it looked too low. I told her I only dropped it about 1/2"
I really like the way it looks now. Better pics..

Yeah I agree - drop both sides of the rear at the same time, and those springs will practically fall out of their mounts. With both shocks unbolted, the torsion beam drops a couple inches lower than just unhooking a single side.

But you will not bend anything by pushing down on the torsion beam . . . if that were the case, your suspension would be fvcked the first bump you hit. Worst case scenario, if you had the entire rear jacked up in the air but only unbolted one shock, by pushing down the beam on one side you could hyper-extend the shock on the other. But with only one corner up in the air there's no chance of that happening, as you discovered it just makes removing the spring a pain in the scrotum.

Drop looks good . . . I can't wait until I get a suspension on mine. Keep everyone posted on how the shocks hold up.

So that's what happens..thanks for explainning it..

Had I known this, I'd have drop both nuts lol.. at the same time. Hopefully the shocks will endure at least a year. Once they're gone I may get Tokikos..

Your drop looks really good. Much better than I thought for Prokits.

haha true. the torsion beam is there to twist under the weight of the car, so you couldn't have damaged it like that.
