spring/shock question

spring/shock question
I have a set of Skunk2s springs on the way. I know these will wear out the oem shocks faster but what's the typical life of the oem shocks? And how long til i'd have to replace them once i slap the skunk2s on? I'm using my fit as my DD.

depends on how and where you drive. also how over sprung they are vs stock. typically can last a good 15-20K miles or so. im sure you can find used dampers for cheap if yours ever blow.

I have about 8500 miles on my stockers with Skunk2s and they show no signs of abnormal wear. I really don't think they will "blow" per se, they just might not last as long. And considering they would probably last 100K or more thats saying a lot. My Fit is a DD also, and I put about 150 to 175 miles day on her so if anyone is going to blow up the stock struts its gonna be me LOL...

For what it's worth, a few years ago, I changed out my CRV's stock shocks for Tokico blues. The shocks coming off had about 80k on them and were in good condition still. I expect the Tokico to last for the rest of the CRV's life. I recently serviced a friends CRV with about 160k on it. The shocks were shot on that car but for how long I don't know.
I think the stock shocks with or without spring changes should last at least 80k if not more. The car is very light after all.

by blow i mean leak or blow as in ruined. figurative speech.
if i said 'man, those wheels are kicks arse!' usually does not mean those wheels will come around a corner and kick your arse while you're sleeping.

Generally speaking OEM shocks should last 40K-50K miles atleast under normal circumstances. However that will change with a different spring. It all depends on how much stiffer those are over OEM and what kinda roads you drive on. I had a friend who went 4 years, about 65K miles with Eibach Pro-Kit springs and OEM shocks and when he switched out the shocks for Tokico's they were still in good shape. I honestly have never left the OEM suspension on any car long enough to have them go bad so I don't know first hand how long it'll last like that.

no way, OEM shocks last WAY longer than 40-50k miles on average. i dont know how long they typically last but i've had cars with 140k, 120k, and 110k miles on oem shocks/springs and they were all fine. i've also had lowering springs with stock shocks on more than one car, putting on over 50k and 30k miles with the lowering springs (for a grand total of 120k on the odo and 50k on another) and the shocks are still fine. i have yet to come across a blown shock with normal springs, or a blown shock with aftermarket springs.
i've always wondered, does anybody have first-hand experience blowing their shocks because of aftermarket springs? because friends, family, and people are always talking about it but nobody seems to have actually had it happen to them personally. if you have experience with this please share, because i have not. someone once told me that it will take forever for you stock shocks to blow because of aftermarket springs, and from my experience, his statement makes a lot of sense. but really, please share because i am all ears. i just think blowing a shock because of aftermarket springs is negligible when compared to blowing a shock period.

Anyways you should buy aftermarket shock, the valving of the oem suck monkey ballz.
Dont take the Tokiko blue, its just a oem replacement.
Check for the T1R shock, Tokiko HTS and Showa Red/Mugen/Spoon.
I wish Koni will release something.. but I think it will never come

Kenchan, I did realize you weren't speaking literally LOL. When I think blown, i think popped seals, leaking fluid, dampers that no longer damp. This is what i mean by "blow" Like, you need new shocks before the weekend, immediately, today. Thats why I say they won't "blow". Now that i think about it that is a little nerdy, LOL. Kurse, I don't really think the stock valving is bad at all! The motion control with the Skunk2s is exemplary, one bound, one rebound, no bouncing, no bottoming out. If the stockers were really that bad that wouldn't be the case.

So can you guys give me an estimate of how long my oem struts will probably last if I went with DF210's? I'm not really a rough driver at all and I drive approximately 10-50 miles a day or so..
And if I were to get aftermarket struts, what would you guys suggest?
