used coilover (stance)...not to happy

so i bought some used stance coilovers. they showed up and i opened up the box. they were wraped up really well so i just put them in my car and went straight to my friends shop.

i pulled out the rear set. they looked ok. then i unwraped the front set. my friends and i just stared at it all we kept saying that does not look right at all. there was a progressive style spring on the front and the top hats were oem honda. what makes it even worse is that the springs look like they were barely on there. so we decided to switch the front sets with the rear sets, but the springs still look like they are not sitting correctly in the front. they were kinda off to the side. it was getting to late and we are going to postpone the install. i also checked online and the guy i bought it off of said that the spring rates he asked for might not be the ones on there.

yeah i know it is my bad for not taking a closer look at the pictures. i feel stupid.

so before i install:
1.i'm going to another one of my friends shop and we are going to find out if the spring rates are correct.
2.this is were you guys can help me. is anyone on this forum running these coilovers? if so, were your front coilovers top hat OEM honda. also if you own one, how did the springs sit (pics if possible)i'm going to call stance about this too.

oh well back to jury duty. these will have to wait

also i might just change out the progressive style spring and a run linear style spring

UPDATED NEW PICS. JUST KEEP GOING DOWN

I think most of the coilovers for the Fit uses OEM top hat, correct me if I'm wrong. Pillow ball mount are optional for some coilovers. Just call Stance...Good luck!

Post pictures. Reading the problems isnt making mental notes for me.

The coilovers have an aluminum top hat, and then the OEM Honda one on top of that.
The OEM one is so the suspension bolts back into the car.

Ok so I just read this and I went straight to stance's web site. The only coil overs that they have that are used on a FIT (GD3) is the GR+.

You can check out their page which has the specs (spring rates) here:

GR+

They have pictures of some of their GR+ coilovers for some of the applications but not for the FIT, The GD3 Fit's info is on their chart with the ratings and all but no pic of what it looks like. Check out the notes 3, 5 on that page as well.

Good Luck

Peace,

ok. update with pics. i called up stance. they said they do use the oem top hats, but the pics on their home page where it has a pic of the honda fit and the pics of the coilover on it has a different top hat (not oem). oh well i'll take his word for it. they were nice people that helped me. they also said that the helper springs are supposed to be on the front and progressive style spring in rear. i thought so. they told me to send pics just to make sure it correct because the guy told me that the plastic piece wasn't supposed to be there. i'm going to take it off and put the springs in the right coilover

now i'm just waiting for the springs to come back make sure they are the right springs i paid for.

here are the pics. notice how its kinda crooked and sits kinda funny especially at the top hat area.

should i keep the plastic piece on because it still kind of sits funny with the correct springs?

wow i dont know much about suspensions but yeah it's kinda wierd with the hat on. The spring is supossed to wrap around the little hole thingies but it's too small.. If you can run it without the hat it might be a little better. also In that pic it almost seems as though the spring is resting on the plastic of the hat, so when it's installed it pushes against plastic? Sounds scaryyy

Uhhh... Those look like OEM springs on a coilover strut. The springs are identical top and bottom so they arent upside down.
You arent suppose to use that plastic keeper with coils. Coil over springs are slim, thats why yours are kinda weird looking to me. They get wide in the center. And all coilovers normally use OEM top hats. Thats how they fit back into your car.

Stance looks like a bad design. They look like they would rattle and be loose and blah... The bottoms actually look like theyre going to fall off that pearch.

ok so i called them again to confirm they said the top hats are supposed to be oem. then my friend called them and they use their own top hats. i ordered them i will have new pics up with the correct springs and correct top hats but it's going to take 4-6 weeks for the top hats to come in

little late to post, but you can unsnap that stock spring holder
from the top hat. you can leave it on there like that if it does
not hit anything. shouldnt have any functional issues with or
without it on as long as it doesn't hit anything (ie your new
spring's hat adapter or springs themselves).

As far as I know most of aftermarket coilovers come without camber top. as we cant adjust camber by coilovers gotta use camber bolts.

coilover+oem tops combo are normally used.

i was going to take off the spring holders but once i found out that stance made their own tops i just went ahead and bought them. the spring still kind of sat funny with the spring holders off
