Another axle popped out

So my axle popped out when I tried to lower the Fit. So far, I know I have to push in the axle (drivers side, transmission side) into the housing. I can push it in but I am not entirely sure if its inside. If I spin the wheel hub, the housing spins too. But the thing is, I can feel the 3pt bearing(?) through the rubber boot a little... unlike the other side, I can not feel it. So am I putting in the axle correctly by trying to push it back in or what?

EDIT: also when I think I have my axle in, the knuckles do not line up. So I think I'm not doing it right. The bolt holes are about only 1/6" aligned.

Yeah, I did read it but I am not entirely sure if my axle is in or not. I just need some clarification from others who experienced this.

Are the axles falling out because of a poor design by honda? Are the snap rings not large enough? Is there even a snap ring?

i think more like cost cutting than anything else.

they wont collapse if you dont let the knuckle fall down while the
struts is out. that's all you need to watch out for. just support
the knuckle with a hydralic at around the height when you can
get the strut out. no biggie.

Same xact thing happen to me.

Here's my experience and maybe you can benefit from this.:

I was installing my springs and instead of putting the jack under a stud I put in under the hub and flopped out.
I was like OMFGD wtf? and I popped it it, at least I though I did but it didn't feel right and looked crooked.

So I got on beloved fitfreak and did some reads that didn't benefit much. What helped the most was when people said that it can take 2 minutes or 2 hours depending on how lucky your are. Best thing to do is push and turn a little, push and turn a little and so on and eventually it will pop in.

So basically get comfortable cause it might take a bit. Sit and push and turn and keep doing that. After 3hrs of messing with it and then trying the push and turn thing it popped in after 20 minutes.

Good luck man.

geez... push and turn. kinda like working on a Cooper-S's
oil change. their frikken oil filter is in this canister and it's a biotch
sometimes to get it to thread back in correctly.

same deal. push and turn... push and turn. push and turn... then
suddenly it threads correctly. stupid design.

This is why I keep telling people, take the extra couple minuets, remove the axle nut and push the axle out of the spindle before disassembling. Not only will it keep the axle form coming apart it give you even more room (not that you need it).

It's not a design flaw, the axle is not meant to be pulled out like that, your making it move farther then its designed to. It common on alot of cars for the axle to come apart if you don't take the time to pull it out first.

Kk here's what you do...

1. Cut the clip that holds the boot to the axle
2. pull down the boot, push up the ring on each axle a little bit
3. Have someone help you as you push it back in
4. HOLD the axle in place as you re connect everything i.e. the strut and the end link
5. put a new clip on (go buy another one)
6. Everything should be good.

Just make sure you support the axle. Put a jack under the behind the break to keep in elevated before you pull off the strut.
