Cool Home Depot Grill

Had some free time on my hands yesterday. Here's what $7.99, a skillsaw, a hot glue gun, and 7 hours of custom fab can do.

Here's what was left over.

if you take some screendoor material and line it in behind the mesh it will make the mesh opague.
That way you won't be able to see inside the grill.

Thought about painting the mesh at all?

Thanks for the input. I wanted to do the lower grill but the fogs are bolted to it . Maybe when i have more time i can come up with something creative.

The screen mesh sounds like a good idea. Maybe in round 2. Not going to paint it i like the glitter when the sun hits it.

Cool, here are some with the lower radiator opening done. I think you'll ,like the silver FIT which has it on the outside like you did. We used the same material to do the lower part. It was already cut as gutter guards at Home Depot. I thought about getting the sheet like you did but the gutter guard was already about the size I needed for my project.

That looks sweet! Eventually i'll pull the bumper again and do the bottom and the side vents beside the fogs.

thanks for the constructive criticism. Very eloquent choice of words. It is not chicken wire by the way. If you hadn't noticed i cut out the bumper so putting the stock one back in would be impossible.

Hey leonine, nice install, eventhough it's not my style. But one concern I have is people trying to mess with your ride. My friend had a wire grill in his Civic, which some crooks cut through to pop open his hood and try to steal his car by disconecting his battery. For some reason the crooks didn't take his Civic, perhaps someone saw them and they took off. How hard to cut is the wire mesh?

It takes guts

My brother put that stuff on the front of his 71 Chevy P/U also had a Railroad Tie and sand tires on the back. I dont think the RR tie and sand tires are in order on the Fit but the grill looks cool
I should have bought the Radioactive symbol grill insert on sale at Wal-mart for $3 a sheet but I didn't have the guts to mod my Fit.
Good Job, Good Luck!
Oh BTW John Deer Air Fresheners are on sale at Target.

Cool, I think that you may want to put something behind it so the support for the hood latch isn't as visible as it is. However I can't think of anything that would work real good off hand. Perhaps if you painted the support black it wouldn't show up as much.

Just food for thought, I like how it turned out.

marokero
The stuff is real easy to cut with just a pair of wire cutters.

Wow, the only thing I have used that stuff for before was to make intake screens for car ventilation systems (passenger cabin) to prevent leaves and debris coming in.

I remember my hands getting cut up with it.

Wow thanks all for your wide array of comments. Someone else had suggested using mesh that goes on a screen door or window. That might do the trick. I did not even think about access to the hood latch but i am not in an area that i think i need to worry about. The screen is easy to cut but not that easy. It would take some time. If they want it that bad they are gonna get it no matter what. And their hand would get gashed up pretty good trying to get in at the latch.

Eventually i will pull the bumper and try that screen door mesh behind it as well as paint the support black. That should cut down on the visibility alot.

Thanks again for your thoughts.

Not bad for a first time doing fab work. never even used a skillsaw before. Borrowed it from my neighbor. Guess i just have a steady hand.
