Totaled the FIT!!!

It was raining so I was only doing 60 on the interstate. I go around a long sweeping turn and there is standing water. This is what my car looked like after I went head on into a concrete barrier. Damage is estimated at $12,300. I didn't even get a scratch on me.

Eh, 60 on the parkway in rain isnt out of the question.

The fact that you hit standing water and ended up hitting a concrete wall head on is very scary! Maybe I wont do 60 in the rain... Glad your ok the Fit shows us what its capable of every time someone smashes one. Glad your ok!

Staying in the fit scene or parting ways?

Thank God for the new safety designs with these cars, especially the ~crumple zones~ and the 6 wrap-around airbags! -Glad you didn't get hurt; an accident like that in a car 20 years ago well could've proven fatal!!

so is it a fit thing where it doesnt handle standing water for crap. i noticed that also... brand spanking new tires and if i go through a little puddle the tire will practically hydroplane.

maybe because its so light and horrible aero?

Aerodynamics have nothing to do with hydroplaning. . Its mostly BC of tires.. don't get me wrong, even brand new rain tires will hydroplane, if your speeding. Yea 60 is fine in rain, but lots of rain on a highway with poor drainage, will result in the situation at hand..

The important thing is you are o.k. and the OEM Dunlop tires are not very good in heavy rain or standing water. I changed mine out first thing because of that very issue.

stock tires were REALLY bad... i easily hydro'd going 65 where it wasn't even that wet on the fwy. my new BF-Goodrich Super Sport tires handled EXTREME weather up to 80mph and eventually it did hydro, but was very informative about it and was easy to regain control. hydroplaning is scary... Thank goodness no one was hurt and no one else hit you. Does that price quote mean your car isn't totaled?

I noticed a lot of hydroplaning with these stock tires no matter what speed I was going. It is very, very scary.

I'm glad you're alright though. It's nice knowing you weren't hurt!

Maybe it depends on which tires your Fit comes with. The Bridgestone Turanzas seem neither better nor worse in the rain than any tire I have had in the past decade.

Sorry to hear about your accident but really happy to hear you walked away without any injuries. The Fit did its job! Hope you get another car
back on the road as soon as possible.

this seems to be a problem with fits, someone should start a tire thread?

so far ive had toyo t1rs, they have been great, only hydroplaned when they had very little tread left.

now i have yokohama s drives, they suck! brand spanking new and hydroplaning worse than my almost bald toyos. there is also excess road noise from the tires.
