Messed around with the Fit today...

So all week I've been looking into this and that about what I can do to make the fit just a little bit faster, you know, that bug that makes you spend money. As cool as the fit is, it's too... placid.

Then I come to the conclusion that any money I spend won't really make me happy unless it connects a high speed compressor to the serpentine belt in some way, and there's no way I can afford that right now.

I'm looking around in the garage and I'm tossing ideas around, not really sure what I'm looking for, and I have this crazy light bulb pop on above my head... ooh look something I can try for free!

Lets see if anyone can guess what I did. I'll post a pic later in the weekend. People will say wtf, but not WTF. Honestly I thought it would turn out being something I wanted to change back immediately but now I don't want to.

Your hint is: others have done this, but not quite this way (of those that I've seen).

The car IS mildly faster than it was before. I record acceleration runs every few months to compare to.

Youtube link, it plays 4 videos

besides I love watching in-car driving videos

you attached extra piping to your intake to make it "cold air"?

I would say he removed the intake snorkle that goes out through the fender and capped the hole in the side of the intake box. The high RPM snarl and resonance is gone, especially at steady RPM cruise. A WAI (warm air intake?) if you will....

Where would the extra piping go? The stock intake IS cold air.

i understand this. but regardless, it is still technically a cold air intake if it takes in cold air. it's just not the kind people are used to hearing about (aftermarket). how restrictive it is doesn't make the air any warmer. well, maybe the extra turbulence on the way has a small effect but doubtfully significant.

You know, you may be right. That would make sense.

Ugh spent all yesterday and today trying to figure out a cpu overheating problem. My 955BE's oem heatsink was so warped it wasn't even touching the right half of the processor. ACK! It's got these funky side wings on the heatsink base plate that were touching the retention bracket when they weren't supposed to. The heatsink still is kinda crappy, even after lapping I had to undervolt to keep things civil, not to mention the mainboard holding back a 6000 rpm fan to 3800 no matter what I do to qfan or speedfan. Back to the car...

Honestly I wouldn't have posted it, because I tried this before, and a lot of people messed with it before, but it was such a different result from last time it honestly surprised me.

The last time, there was never a perfect fit, and it was permeable being just compressed foam or tape, which makes the situation worse. Either reflect a wave and use it, or send it to the end of the pipe for the reflection and use it then. A leaky or dampening block will absorb a wave and ruin it, hence that time the car just got loud and lost power.

It is still a stock airbox... I never cut it! Besides with that compression anytime the engine sees air over 90F or so it feels like its pulling timing like crazy unless it has premium gas going down its throat so I'm not going to lose that snorkel.

You won't believe what worked so well...

On a side note, the throttle response is delayed a touch like a CAI would be, but when it surges in it really makes a problem with spinning first gear. That part is kind of annoying. Need something stickier after winter is over.

Thank goodness I wasn't drinking anything when I read leaf blower. I would have to buy some monitor cleaner
