Custom Cargo Mat Installed
I recently hauled bags of barkdust in the back of my Fit and nearly had one (a fit) when I tried to vacuum out all the little slivers that were stuck in that pathetic excuse for carpet. Took forever to get it out. I've been intending to make something to put back there and had originally bought a commercial-type carpet from Walmart. But after practically shredding the carpet to fuzz with the vacuum, I decided something more rubbery would be good. I found this fabric on the clearance table at Joann Fabrics - it's kind rubber-like yet feels like cloth. It will be easy to just shake out and be done with it when it gets dirty.
I made it longer at the front end, folded it over and added velcro so I could close the space between the cargo cover and the back seat.
I haven't decided yet whether to make a cut so that one side the seat could go down and be covered. I rarely use that feature and I hate to have a cut in the mat if I don't need to. I did happily discover that the loop side of velcro automatically sticks to the seats and carpeting. That was 50% less velcro-ing that I had to do.
I added the velcro under the cargo cover framework with two-sided 3M tape.
