Got Bored... Felt Like Doing Something To The Car

I've always loved teal EGs, and stopped by an Advance Auto Parts on my way home from getting drunk and watching the Panthers lose today... needed a positive mood adjuster.

What do you think?

It looks 100 times better in person, the clear I used has some crazy sparkle to it, and it looks awesome in the sun.

Thanks, but don't thank me for the idea... I got it from RickyGD. I was actually going to go purple, but decided against it since he had already done that color.

I'm sure this isn't the last color it will be. It's not a perfect job, so there's room for improvement.

Take out the two bolts at the top, and the two "screws" to the left and right of the VTEC emblem just turn and unlock the cover. Then you can lift it off.

I then taped off the VTEC emblem, cleaned the surface with some rubbing alcohol, and started spraying. It probably would have been easier if I would have started with a white primer base coat, but I was drunk when I bought the paint and didn't think about it.

Let it dry, and throw it back in.

FWIW you should probably purchase high temp paint for this, it gets hot.

Yeah, that was my original intent, but the high temp paint did not come in any colors that really stood out to me.

I've been checking it every time I drive the car, and so far there have been no adverse effects on the paint, and honeslty... I can drive the car 100 miles, jump out of the car and grab the cover... it doesn't get too terribly hot, just a bit warm.

yeah i painted mine once w/ regular plastic paint (plastikote) but i didn't prime it so the edges lifted up so i removed the paint w/ aircraft remover and used an adhesion promoter then sprayed it VBP and cleared it on top. Looks muuuuch better.

Ur's looks great! i used 2 own a tahitian green pearl civic hatch. After seein ur engine cover i miss that car. =[

On a side note, u can remove the vtec emblem to make it easier 2 paint. Just break off those tabs on the back and remove the emblem. it's attached w/ double sided tape. If u take it off once, u can reapply it, but after u take it off a 2nd time u need new tape.

I figured there had to be a way to get it off, but if it involves breaking the tabs and relying on double sided tape, I'll just keep taping it off. It's not difficult, and still gets the job done.

Yeah a lotta my friends would call it the teal or green civic. I used 2 have the title "the turtle" in h.s b/c it was green and slow like one....until i boosted it then it was called "the turtle on steroids" loll.
