3-Way front door speakers?
Hi everyone! I'm new to the site, but I must say, this is quite a haven for great information. I recently bought myself a silver, base model Fit, and am quite happy with it. The car I upgraded from, though, had a somewhat-improved sound system in it. I know I can't really use the head unit from it, but I was hoping to use the speakers. Here is what I had in the old car:

Now, I'm a newbie at installing audio equipment, so I'm wondering if it would be possible to use the old speakers in the Fit... I was pretty happy with the way they sounded, all in all. My only concern would be whether they would need some sort of special mounting bracket or spacer, some kind of special connector, and also whether I'd be able to take the door panel off myself! Any help would be appreciated.

Mounting depth won't be a prob with those speakers. You'll need spacers as factory speakers are in custom brackets. You'll just need to cut, strip and connect the speaker wires to the terminals as again custom clips on the factory speakers.

Thanks Vividjazz! I've seen your responses everywhere on the forums, and am quite relieved to see that you're the one responding with an answer. Any advice on where to buy the spacers from?
Thanks, and I'll let you know how everything goes!

Spacers can either be plastic or MDF. We usually just buy them from any car audio store or electronics store or you can make some up if you've got some MDF and a jigsaw. When I did my car up we just made them up out of some offcuts.
You won't need to come out far just so the back of the speaker clears the window when its down. If you come out too far you can't get the stock door trim back on.

Hey vivid, since you seem like one of the more experienced with ICE in the Fit do you think some Infiniti Kappa's would fit with some dynamat difusers behind them? How thick would the spacer need to be if it were to work?
Just wondering to know if I buy myself some Kappas or some References.

With spacers the max depth you have before the midbass touches the window when its down is 67mm. 69mm if you don't mind dremmeling the plastic inside of the interior door panel a little bit. Not sure of how far exactly this allows for the spacers to come out as a consequence but equivalent to stacking 2 of the thinner off the shelf spacers together. Best to get the spacer and put them temporarily in position and make sure the interior door trim can still go back on. Also with some speaker designs the speakers come out a little from the spacer so that has to be factored in. Measure twice and cut once.
Infinity Ref are 2-1/16" (55mm), Kappa 2-3/16" (55.6mm) and Kappa Perfect 2-3/4" (69.85mm) mounting depths for the midbass. So the perfects would be a squeeze and the others not a prob. I'm really surprised how shallow they are. Used to run a little 8" Infinity sub in the Jazz / Fit. Sounded great (tight) in the small interior. So many subs get boomey in the Fit.

Awesome info man. Thanks again. I'll be going for some Kappas then as I've gone through 2 sets already, 1 in my old Mazda 929 wich died of tranny problems, and another in my defunct Camry. The Fit will be no exeption. Except I'm asuming properly powered and dynamated I won't need much from the bass dept as I'm over the huge bass phase. Just want something that sounds clear and punchy.

this is what i did:
I took the stock speakers off. its basically a white bracket w/ a built in speaker and a connector in the back. I ripped out the speaker and cut the connector w/ my dremel. Then i mounted some Pioneer Premier TS-A631P 6 1/2 3-way's (in all 4 doors). Link found below very cheap price and great sounding speakers:
Pioneer Premier TS-A631P - 6-1/2" 3-Way Speaker...
Anways then i just took the speakers and mounted it directly to the white outer edge so i don't need some special adapter for the door. I just took the mounting screws and screwed em in sideways. I know its not he proper way 2 do it but i didn't wanna buy brackets and plus it held on really strong and it clipped into the door just like stock. then i took the oem connector and soldered them to the terminals on the speakers so they don't come loose. I know it's kinda hard 2 imagine what the hell im talkin about but if i take my door panel off i'll take a pic of what i did. it's very effective IMO.

a whole lot better. you cannot compare a dual-cone to a 3 way. its a hands down win. The only problem is that the headunit cannot push the speakers to its fullest capacity. I usually have the oem unit running at 30-32 and i have no distortion. once i hit the 33 mark it gets a lil raspy. The stock speakers couldn't do that i could only run it at 26 max. I am definitely waiting for the dash kit 2 come out so i can push my speakers harddd.
