Kenwood KSC-SW1 Subwoofer Review and Pics
#21
Sorry, after I checked I did find there wasn't enough room under the rears seats once folded down. I have not installed mine yet, but when I do, it looks like the rear "trunk" area, either on the left or right side, would be the best at keeping it out of the way.

Alright here are the pics...sound is pretty good inside the Fit. There is no BOOMING bass, but nice responsive bass with a little boom. You can set it up to be loud but the bass won't be clean anymore. All in all I replaced my Infinity Perfect 12.1 sub with the Kenwood KSC-SW1 subwoofer and couldnt be happier. I am not a bass junkie, I just wanted some clean fill in bass.

If I could do it again I would have mounted it a little higher. Now when I try to get to my spare tire the board hits it and it isnt very easy to get in the spare tire area. I chose that location because of the flat surface area and I didnt want to have things on the back of both seats. The subwoofer is at least rugged so you can put things on it but I don't know how well the amp would handle having things sit on top of it. I only velcroed the amp so theoretically I could just move it higher with some more velcro, but I don't go into my spare tire area that much so no biggy. It's all about the industrial strength velcro! hahah It's almost like duct tape and zip ties. You can use it for anything almost.

Do you think the Kenwood sub would work well where your amp is? My package is delayed by snow so I haven't go to hold it or feel it yet. (Wow, that sounds dirty...)
I was thinking of doing a velcro install where your amp is. If I needed to get to the spare, I could just pop the sub off and go about what I needed to do.

Well, I ended up mounting to the back of the seats as well. It sounds pretty good. Bassheads need not apply. I did dig out a few (hip-hop) songs that it couldn't handle. But being a classic rock fan, it definitely fills out the sound quite nicely.

Yeah, the subwoofer wont handle any of those bass cds. The bass also sounds good from the little subwoofer because of having no trunk and the bass also gets fired back from the rear trunk.
If I was an audioholic though, needed that thump and didnt want to sacrifice my trunk space I would have dropped another amp and sealed 10" subwoofer in there instead of the KSC-SW1.

Hey what size are the drivers in that unit? I think this would really fill the missing bass in my stock fit. I really enjoyed the 350w premium system in my 07 civic but comign to the fit and its 200w system was a letdown in the audio department. Are they 6 or 8 inch drivers? The civic had a 8 inch I think and it was just fine for my taste.

I ended up picking up the 10 inch model kenwood has that is self powered etc, and a hi-lo converter. I've never installed stuff like this before so it's going to be an interesting experience, I think taking apart the dash is going to be a challenge.

You don't need to take apart the dash. If you want to connect to the rear speakers just do it by the column inbetween the front and rear doors. I know someone has a DIY sound system install and they showed how to do it there. Well, check it out and see.

It actually only has one 6.5" woofer, and one passive diaphragm.

You are better off getting a real subwoofer and amp. I know people have said the 10" self powered subwoofers are fine also, but I would rather go with a small subwoofer in a small enclosure and seperate amp. You should check out Element Design since they make some nice small subwoofers.

Now since you mentioned it, I've been tempted to upgrade to a subwoofer in a box. The main reason is the Kenwood subwoofer gets in the way of loading things since I can't put anything on top of it. I may upgrade in the near future. I already have everything wired for more amps.

Selling my Kenwood KSC-SW1
I am selling my Kenwood KSC-SW1. My components actually play bass pretty well and I would like more flat cargo space. PM me!
