Rear view mirror - rubber spacer

Is this thing actually necessary? I need to mount a couple transponders up there to open gates and pay for toll roads. It does look stable without it, but I'm not sure if it is serving a real purpose.

I removed mine, gave the mirror a few good tugs, and determined I could do without it, since I need the space for my sun shades-- get rid of it.

The Rubber Spacer minimizes vibration/shake on the mirror when on bumpy roads. I noticed this when I removed it while driving on the worst highway in NYC (The Brooklyn/Queens Expressway).

Its really up to you if you need this there or not!
