can i put 5.25 inch speakers in the fit will is sound cleaner than 6.5

Size of the speaker does not determine cleaner sound, the quality of the speaker does. So if you put a cheap pair of pioneers in there they will sound cheap, and if you put a nice set of components by someone like Focal or another high end brand they will sound a ton better.

I put alpine type-s compnants (sps-600c) in the front of my fit and the 5.25 coaxials that match in the rear. IMHO, the tweeters suck, nasty 8db or so peak at 8khz, they lack midrange and are a little light on the bass (though they have the midbass hump arround 100hz people seem to like and think is bass). Id you like boom and sizzle, these will work great, if you want audiophile sound, these are not for you.
That said, they were easy to install, well made and if you use the threaded mounting thing on the tweeters , you can use a hole saw to cut a 2" (or was it 2.25"? You will need to measure) hole in the tweeter pods and press fit them for a clean, pro looking install. That said, I still don't like the way they sound, too bright for my taste.
Actually, if you are interested, I will pull the componants and the coaxials and sell them to you. $70 for the 6.5" componants, and... $40 for the coaxials in the rear. I will include the tweeter pods (I ordered a new set to molest for my custom system I am doing) and the wires I used to install the tweeters. I patched the tweeter wires into the adaptor harnes for the head unit rather than running the wires into the doors to the woofers. I have all the boxes and hardware from alpine as well. (I am keeping the mounting rings I got from crutchfield though, so you would need to make some rings either from the stock speakers or MDF). You will need to know some wireing and be able to solder to install the tweeters and woofers.
Just saw you will be using an amp. You can run the wires however you like then.
