installed Map lights that i got from an Element at the junkyard today, pain in the ass dealing with the junkyards with the newer vehicles (im fairly certain they think the beat up, snow soaked, haggard, possibly not working parts are made of solid gold)...
Element map lights same as JDM ones...
http://www.icbmotorsport.com/jdmfitgd3map.html
anyways
made a custom bracket as there is no place to mount the Map Lights, which you would think there is since these map lights supposedly come stock in Fits in Japan, anyways after researching a bit- I didn't find any real easy/clear way to mount them up.... so here is what i came up with...
clean junkyard lights up...
make a template
cut a hole- make sure not to measure anything- measuring is for pussys...
run a wire from dome light to map lights with a hanger... wire up plug (thats the nice part about getting one from the junkyard no need to solder wires to map lights- you get the plug)
this fine ass piece of engineering... mounts to where the rear view mirror is "was"
had to trim up the foam piece that was there previously so ^the above could mount to rear view mirror location... (once you do or have done this mod- you will know what foam piece im talking about)
put trimmed blocks back up
install everything
hope this helps someone out- it was a very long process for me, lot of installing, un-installing- cutting, measuring etc...

My post from this thread ---> https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...ort-w-nav.html
Here's the pics:
You can see the pieces of wood I cut. I decided the 2" height was a little too much, so I recut them at 1 3/4".
I also gave them a slight taper from 1 3/4" to 1 5/8" to form to the angle between the roof and the headliner. It really wasn't necessary, but I wanted it as flush as possible.
In order to minimize the "drop" in height of the roof liner I had to snap off the 2 tabs that helped secure the original map light (seen bent out on previous pics). I tried to fit them between the map light & console (similiar location to where they were on the existing map light), but they're too long and push the console further down. Here they are on top of the piece of roof liner that was cut out.
Here's the finished install.
and a wider shot.
As I mentioned in my previous post the mounting/grounding bolts are slightly short. I still haven't got the longer ones, but I will soon to correct the slight crease toward the front by the maplight, might add a spacer depending on the fit.
As it is now it's extremely secure even though I didn't secure the sunglass section to the roof, and it's still flush. After I get the longer bolts, I will attach some velcro or double stick tape to the back of the sunglass holder part to be more secure to the roof. I don't want anything permanent cause they will have to move the console forward whenever I get the sunroof installed.

Ah well then disregard that for GD applications. Did the GD not have a map lights option? That would be the only reason I could think of for it not having the mounting spots.

but im thinking it is a lie, it doesnt make sense to me that the mounting points dont exist...
