Vacuum Gauge in a GD Jazz

Installed one today and I'm wondering if it only reads up to 5-7in. of Hg (mercury)? What's the normal vacuum reading? Where do I tap for the vacuum hose? I tried the brake master cylinder vacuum hose and got the same reading. Is this due to the small engine of the Jazz? My other rig is a Nissan Patrol with a 3 liter donk. Thank you.

25 in HG is my idle vacuum without AC on
19-20 with AC on.

Where did you tap for the vacuum gauge sensor? What's an independent sensor? The vacuum gauges I have used always have a dedicated air line that you tap onto a vacuum line.

Total newbie here. Which particular hose would that be on the 1.5? Thanks!

if it's an electric gauge (has map sensor included) it will sit wherever you last were when you shut it off, then when you turn the car on it will recalibrate itself to "0"...

if it's a mechanical vac gauge then where it sits when the car is off is "0"... i think this is what you have? if so, either add 5 to whatever you're seeing, or get a new gauge...

It's mechanical, with an airline you have to tap onto a vacuum line. When the engine engine is off, the gauge points to zero.

I'm just wondering which hose I should tap into.

open your hood, look at the intake manifold.
front center (between teh manifold and the radiator) you will see a small diameter hose that connects to a nipple on the intake manifold. tap into that hose.

Old school way to drive for better mileage. Easier to keep in closed-loop, easier to keep consistent manifold pressure under acceleration, et cetera.

One day my old Stewart Warner vac gauge will find its way back into my car.

As long as it's not the PCV line and not the brake booster line, I don't think it matters.
