Manual shift knob installation

Manual shift knob installation
Yeah, this is a bit of a noob question. I am having a hard time installing the shift knob I just bought (Civic Type R; # SK-TYPERGM-MT). The knob will screw onto the shaft for 1-2 full turns, but then becomes very hard to turn. I get the feeling that the threads don't match, and that I'll strip the shaft or knob of I force it. The nut will not easily fit onto the shaft either (how do I install it with the nut, or do I even need it? The knob did not come with instructions.)
The seller told me that it certainly should fit, as all Hondas have the same thread pattern. I am inclined to believe it, so I want to make sure I am not nuts before I return it.
Any advice?

Is there a mention of the thread pattern on the box?
It should thread right on but towards the bottom become a little tighter.
The nut is to help you line the numbers up straight.
All Hondas do have the same thread/pitch...not sure why yours is being difficult. Maybe the knob threads are messed up?

Turns out there was plastic some gunk in the shaft threads from a cheap knob I installed a while back (one of those universal knobs with a plastic unthreaded female piece.) Cleaned the threads, and all is well. Thanks for the advice!!
