Warning: Friction Based GPS Mounts...

My Fit is literally weeks old. One of the additions I wanted when I purchase my Fit was a navigation system. I bought a Sport Automatic without Navigation. So I purchased an aftermarket portable Garmin Nuvi, along with a dash placeable, beanbag friction mount.

It works great and I'm really happy with the unit. However I just noticed that where I've been placing the bean bag/friction mount has left some micro marring on the dash. I'm hoping it's not too serious and that I can clean, buff it out but in certain light I can definently see where the mount has been and is leaving dullness.

I like the idea of being able to quickly set up and remove my navigation system, but part of the reason I went with a friction based non-suction cup mount was the hope's of a markless removal.

I really don't know what to do now. I don't want to risk a permanent mark on the top of my dash but I'm not too keen on a suction cup mount or something permanently attached.

Maybe I should of gone with the Honda Factory built in unit?

I've seen vent mounts but heard bad things about them. I've also seen cup holder adapters...any suggestions?

I just use the stick-on mount, poked through a slit in the dashboard cover. Downside is the mount is always there, even if the GPS itself is hidden somewhere else.

Suction mount in the small side window drivers side. A perfect place IMHO. Pop the whole thing off when done.

EDIT: I have the same Garmin, mount works like a charm

This is where my gps sits as well. I also ran the power cord under the dash and up the weather stripping...stealth install ftw.

I agree. The small side window with the suction cup mount works great. Hard wired mine in. If you wanna remove it all ya gotta do is unplug from the back of the GPS & pull off of mount.
