I venture forth....

Damn you clowns and your distressingly convincing arguments to get rid of the stock HU! I have decided to get a Pioneer AVH P3100DVD after looking at the "show me your dash" thread and reading all about how hard it is to fix what is wrong with the OE HU. I am frankly sick of not listening to my music anymore because the stereo in the Fit is so inadequate. With the windows down you might as well forget it, and with them up you can clearly hear all the musical detail that isn't coming through. I love the fact that the 3100 has a touch screen and doesn't fold down! Motorized faceplates have a nasty habit of dying young around me So I guess I'm on the slippery slope again, thanks, bastards! LOL

Well I'll be hearing one real soon also! I'm sure this will lead me to upgrade the speakers, and of course then i'll have to have a sub, followed by amps etc, etc etc..... Its OK, I just can't stand not being able to hear my music anymore. The HU ought to keep me happy for at least this winter while I build my war chest back up LOL

Good choice on the HU. I was considering that one, and the AVIC-U310BT. I actually ended up going with a DEH-P6100BT. I just didn't like the idea of an in-dash and the security issues it may pose in the area I live. I think AVIC411.com may have the information you'll need on doing the parking brake bypass.

I have looked everywhere (and i mean it!) for the bypass info for the p3100 DVD and can't find it. Do any of you guys know if the 3100 cross-references with any of the AVIC series of Head units? I really need to know so I can do the bypass while I'm installing the HU this weekend. Not even AVIC411 could help so i hope I'm not up the creek here....

Almost all head units use a switched ground for the bypass. Pioneer almost exclusivley. All you do is the one wire that tells you to wire it to the ebrake instead wire it to a ground anywhere on the chassis. Then put a switch inline of that wire that you can switch on and off, this tricks the headunit that the ebrake was used.

I ended up going with the p4100. I looked at the 3100 and if you actually shop around you can get the 4100 for only about $70 more (i got mine for $412 delivered). It's got the full 7" touch screen and tilt. Also, on eBay there is a company that makes a black box about half the size of a pack of cigarettes that you wire up with the head unit and you can use everything while driving. It was only about $20. Best decision I ever made. Makes the bypass incredibly simple.

I didn't want the fold down face, although the extra size would have been nice (that what she said LOL) Motorized faceplates and I don't get along at all. I also have a five year old daughter who is going to go ape-shit when she discovers she can watch Barbie movies on the dashboard of Daddys car. Every single member of AVIC411.com said don't waste your money on "bypass kits" so I'm not going there. It can't be that hard to fool the HU into thinking the e-brake is in use. I just don't want to have to look at the little red light on the dash is all. I just ordered it from Crutchfield like a half hour ago so it will be here Friday! Whoot!! Just in time for me to install it on the clock at work on Saturday, life is indeed good my friends....
