alright so i took my fron door panels out today and it was really easy

1st. there are three clips on the bottom it the armrest thing i just put a flat head under the whole thing and it pos right off
2nd. unplug the wire that connect to the door panel
3rd. there are three screws under the panel and one at the door handle take those off.
4th. just pull the door panel kinda hard and it pops off
5th. there is a cable connecting to the door handle with a little blue thing holding it on jut turn the blue thing and the cable will come off.
6th. last thing to do is unplug the tweeter and the whole panel will come off
YOUR DONE!

so the only problem i have is taking the door insert off it is held in by like these melted plastic rivets. if i take these off how am i going to get it to stay on when im done wrapping it?


if anyone could help who has done their door panels that would help alot!

 

ok this is what i figured out to do. so i took a razor and cut off the melted plastic rivets. when i put the panels back on im going to apply a very thick glue to those spots.

so i took my panel out and took off the old fabric cause i didnt want to go over it and this is how it looks

 

I'm glad someone has actually posted this up. I was a little too chicken to just cut out the plastic rivets. I definitly wanna see how this goes

Excellent. I was also wondering about those plastic inserts. For putting them back on, I would use a hot glue gun. An industrial type hot glue gun will make anything stay, especially if you're going to be putting plastic to plastic. And those melted rivets are basically from a glue gun.

The headliner would be the scariest part for me. I've looked it up on Bernadi parts, and it's around $500 to replace, so you only get one cheap chance. I'm worried to death about it warping, not being smooth, etc. I'd really like to see some pictures on how it's done properly.

My biggest question is about type of fabric. What are you using? I'm assuming you can't just use a basic fabric, as most adhesives that you'd be using would ooze through it. Do you use a thin vinyl type of fabric?

And as for glue: plastic cement? That's what I read in someone else's thread. Let us know what your results are!

 

ok so i got my fabric in and my type r red suede shift boot.

The fabric i got is a red micro suede i thought it was going to be thin but actually its thick
so this works out for me cause the glue wont ooz through but i wasnt really worried about it
casue im using 3m spray adhesive. the front two door panels should be done by tonight and
i will show pics how they turned out and how i did it all

 

ok so i finished!!!
this was a really easy project not much too it. i used the hot glue on the lil rivet spots and it worked great! here are some pictures.

to take off the fabric it just peels off nothing hard really. they to add new fabric i bought 3M super77 spray adhesive

 

uh-oh.. you might have problems with the super 77 in the long run. i use that spray adhesive to mount posters onto foam-core and presentation boards; eventually the paper starts to peel and these posters just sit under a spotlight

interior looks great, btw! it's refreshing to see a solid color instead of all the patterns that everyone's been doing lately.

that's an old school super wide angle rear view mirror. Those were awesome to use.

That is just plain awesome. I love how you make it seem so easy! I may end up doing something very similar, but with blue. I'll start doing some research on materials here soon.

Let me know how that adhesive holds up. What do you plan on doing if the adhesive starts to fail?

 

yea it looks like something hard to do but really its not. took me a couple hours. but nothing too hard. really i think anybody can do it. i can make a semi DIY to show the basics.

if the adhesive doesnt hold up i will just have to buy something stronger. but i think it will hold up since i took the old fabric off and didnt go over it with the new fabric

I did it on my 09. I think you should remove the old fabric, there might be room problems if you dont. It tears off. It is a tough job, but that is the easy part. The panel is heat staked, or "melted plastic" welded on in 13 places. I ground them all off with a dremel tool and an abrasive disc, pull the panel, then drill out CAREFULLY each post, as they are origionally hollow. Do not drill through! EASY touch son, then I epoxy 4-40 screw studs in there. (Cut off 1" screw heads, put that side down.) Then you can srew the panel back on with nuts and washers. I thought it was better than slobbering glue, this is removable. My tip for bonding new fabric? Your fabric better have some stretch sir, some of those turns are rough. And only bond the top section with spray adhesive first, trying to do it all at once is not much time. Lots of nasty stretching to do. It is a lot of work my friend, but I think it is worth it because we hate that fabric so damn much.
