8" Sub?

So I'm looking into adding a sub and I don't want it to take up half the space of the hatch so I was thinking about getting an 8w3v3 8" sub and building a small shallow box for it. Has anyone heard an 8" sub before? I don't want loud bass that can be heard a block away just something that has some kick to fill in the low end. If not this then I think I will just get a basslink since its nice and compact. I also thought about the spare tire sub but I don't feel like working with glass and cutting up the hatch carpet.

Have you considered using a slim sub. Just put a Sony 10" slim in my girls S2000 (but that was a glass box) and I've got one I getting ready to put in my GE8. I've got a buddy who has a the Sony truck box with the slim 10" (XS-LB10S) and the box is super small not a ton of bass but enough to even out your system.

Crutchfield had a few listed (rockford, Kicker and etc) but haven't heard these personally.
Enclosed Subwoofers at Crutchfield.com

Here is the link to the sony stuff. (i've used all of these)
Xplod Info Center - Slim Series Amplifiers And Subwoofers

Hope this helped. It all just depends on the sound your looking to get out of the sub

I want to build a box that the same width as the rear passenger side seat so I can fold down the rear divers side when needed. But I also want it to be shallow enough so I can fit some luggage in front of the sub. So I was considering a 8" since they only recommend .3 cubic feet. So I'm wondering if the 8" is good enough for the bass as I've read some reviews that say it sounds like a 12". Just wanted some more opinions. Also I am planning on using that slim sony amp.

I've only heard a couple of 8" subs, but the same runs true with 8's as it does with any other size sub it's al in the size of the magnet.

Just looked up the JL 8w7 which I know hits hard, but it wants 0.875 cu.ft. of air space, which will take up a good amount of room.

Sorry, wish I could be more help. Good luck

I havent heard this sub personally but I know Sound Splinter makes good products when it comes to the SQ side of things

The 8" RL-i [ SoundSplinter Subwoofers - RL-i 8" Subwoofer Information ]

It can work in a relatively small box 0.2 - 0.65 cu ft net volume sealed

there is also the Ascendant Audio Assassin 8" Ascendantaudio.com

box size from 0.25 - 0.5 cu ft net sealed

i bought a $20 'xbox' 8" subs from partexpress.com with enclosure. probably the best sounding sub i've owned for the $$. yes, that was $20 for the sub and enclosure.

it's in a 1cuft enclosure tuned to 50hz. i have 120rms on the sub from my alpine amp. after playing with the EQ a bit, it sounds great and gets quite loud. i'm very happy. however, i do not listen to music that gets low. only loud: metal, hard rock, etc. 8" suck for going low. also, do NOT use sealed enclosures. total waste. all subs sound better, play louder/lower and more efficiently in properly designed ported enclosures.

the soundsplinter subs are outstanding. i have had and love both the RE RE8s and AA assassins in 8"

So if someone says

- "Yeah, i have an 8 and it's awesome!"

or someone else says

- "An 8 is not enough bass"

Neither really shouldn't mean much because it's you and your ears and your music preferences that is the sole determinant that an 8 is enough for you

Just keep that in mind when deciding what to do.. good luck

The RL-i would probably be the best you'd get. I had an RL-p 15" and it was the best subwoofer I've ever owned. Best SQL combo I ever heard. So I imagine the RL-i must be made to the same standards. However, I know the Assassin subs are also very high quality.

This JL enclosure is the best bet and it has an 8W3v3.
JL Audio: Products
11"H x 5.125"D x 18.625"L and it's ported
