Need help removing the head unit panel!

I am following the instructions (click to see) in the manual -- step 6 says to push on the clip with a socket wrench -- and try as I might I can't get it to pop out! I followed all of the instructions up to this point, but can anyone guide me as to how I can get the center panel out to be able to access the head unit wiring/plugs? This is to install crossovers on the mids (and potentially change out the head unit), and I already severed a wire trying to do it without removing the panel, so I need to get in there to fix that as well.

Thanks for any help! I'm really stuck after spending half an hour trying to pop that clip!!
