New speakers ruined my car
Hey all,
I just installed 1 sony explode 300 watt 4-way speaker on my passenger side. I have an 09 Fit.
I turned on my radio and to my surprise it sounded a lot worse than the stock from the drivers side. It has no bass at all.
Everyone else who upgraded their speakers claims that it was an improvement. What's up with this?

Ok ok i get it i bought horrible speakers. They are 270watt 50rms. I checked however and noticed they are 50hz - 23 khz. If i got something 30-35khz and 65 rms, would that still work with the stock head unit?

I agree, Sony Explode products are not very high quality.
Speaking about mid-range speakers specifically; I personally like Alpine, Pheonix Gold, Kicker and MB Quartz the best. If you are on a budget Clarion makes a good product as well; Sony and Kenwood stand out as the bottom of the barrel products to me.
Sony over-rates their products BIG TIME... if you tried to run that much power to them they would frap like crazy.
As long as you pick up a set of speakers from the brands I mentioned they don't need a lot of power to sound loud and the quality should be immediately apparent. As an example I have heard a Kicker sub running at 75watts easily out-pound a 300watt Kenwood sub. It kind of makes you shake your head sometimes at how much they can differ against the same measuring stick.

if u stay with the factory hhead u should get a speaker with high sensitivity levels to make up for the lack of power and lower if you are using an amp.people dont know that you can blow out spreakers if u under power them as well as over power.

Now if you want to get specific, if you underpower a speaker with a frequency range it is not designed for you can kill it. EX: Play a 10,000 Hz sound at 100 watts on a 250 watt sub designed for 10-200 Hz. But I won't call this being underpowered, I would call this misuse. Speaker suspensions and cooling are designed to operate within the rated frequency range.
